I'm looking at a week of sun during June. Don't want to do anything but hang on the beach, read, go for a surf each morning, drink a mai tai while watching the sun set and eat some lovely fresh sea food.
Have narrowed it down to an islands resort near Nadia or resorts on the south side of Upolu Samoa.
They both seem about the same price. What would you go for?
Try the internet;
its called google;
oliver + holiday + fiji / samoa
Seriously,
I been Fiji a couple of times and loved it.
Not been to Samoa yet.
G'day Oliver come hang on Namotu you won't be disappointed its the best Island in Fiji with 5 star resort facilities I'll be there in May - late July/August/September.

For the best-greatest FIJIAN holiday click onto www.namotuislandfiji.com & escape to your Namotu atoll oasis. It's the ultimate in 5 star resort accommodation catering for your every saltwater need. Whether you want to hang on top of the water for surf or dive deep underneath with a spear, maybe get dragged along by the wind kite boarding - wind surfing or even a paddle down wind, fishing will blow your mind (tight lines) I had many of rapalas destroyed (that would make you cry). & island hoping is a must in the afternoon. The food will fill a 400 pound mans appetite with sashimi for appetizers every evening + I guarantee you will drink around 15 stubbies of Fiji Bitter every night & the kava bowl is always (high tide). When the sun goes down the activities begin $5-$10 US entry fee is the standard rate bet = $300 US up for grabs per game, LCR is the ultimate crowd pleaser followed by Kelly pool, table tennis or crab racing. & then there's karaoke for the brave just don't give me the mike I sing like Jed Clampett from the hillbillies (embarrassing)

I'd go for Fiji. I've been to Samoa twice and got pretty much skunked each time. Some good set ups but they seem real fickle in terms of swell direction and wind. Had a ball each time I've been to Fiji however. For SUP you've got the name waves plus the rights at Tavarua and Namotu that can be real fun and are often empty... Only a short ride from Island resorts around Plantation Island
Oliver,you said Lisa likes 5 star right
DW's videos and pictures are a hoot but looks like a boy's trip.
I could be wrong ( again ) however look into it.
On the flip side you can surf your arse off eat and drink till the
cows come home. My 50 cent
BALI rings the bells,ever been there,great everything,cheep,5 star
accom,best food and drink and we know surf is the way of life.
Namotu all day every day. Even some of the other areas around Namotu that are cheaper options are better than samoa. Waves at Namotu and Tavarua are way better than Samoa especially for Sups. i didn't come across a Sup friendly wave in samoa. It's more a place for Body Boarders. Short steep shallow reef breaks and the food, beer and hospitality in Fiji and in particular Namotu is way way better and worth ever cent over samoa. I did like Samoa though just liked Namotu about 10 times more.
Hey Downwinder, Is Danos (in the first photo) still hanging on Namotu? Had many a silly night with that nut!
Oliver,
Fiji all the way. More consistent and more to offer. The left at Namotu is meant to be amazing and not
too challenging. (I haven't been there). A mate of mine took the family to Plantation Island and he said
it was perfect with the kids. You taking yours? There's boat trips from Plantation to any of the other breaks.
Samoa can be fickle and pretty much all the waves only work well when the tides are pretty high, so if you
time your trip wrong you may only get one solid surf a day for part of your holiday.
Hey Oliver
I'm no holiday expert (but happy to do the training course). Went to Samoa recently with a sup and didn't get it wet. Used the shortboard the whole time due to the shallow death slab type of waves
I would probably would not take a sup again. Fiji sounds the go for my next trip.

Stay at Jankies place in sanur; clean, comfortable, good food close by.
quieter that the cess pool of tuban and kuta, fun waves a walk away or grab a driver from the top of the street get him to take you to canggu for daily sups.
seafood better in fiji though
I stayed on Namotu last week.
Food, accom and service was very good.
Surf ranged from solid, to fun head high +
Lefts is a enjoyable SUP wave
