f..king insane surfing from James. Best rail to rail surfing I have seen for a long time. Hope he takes it all the way to the final and more!

Watched it at Windsurfnsnow with Sam & John, he was killing it. Just so far above the rest. To have Kainoa McGee say that's how sup surfing should be done is a huge compliment!!

Great stuff James, setting it all up with some well timed fades and big strong bottom turns.

Impressed by Kai Bates last wave in the next heat. Pity though the previous 15 minutes of from the shore fotage was nearly all Lecco including long scenes of him paddling out. Typical of the favouritism that plagues competition????

Regardless, the commentary was fun!

Have to concur with comments above - best rail to rail surfing I've seen (possibly ever) on a SUP - Kai Lenny was matching him off the top but James came off the bottom with a radical smoothness and conviction rarely seen on a SUP - the board looked like a peach. I went to the JP website to see which model it was - JP don't do quads so I guess its either custom or proto....

Great to see the Aussies like James and Kai.ripping.

One question though: who in the heck is RORY CHAPMAN???? Comp draw says he is from AUS.
Tried searching his name here, but nothing came up. Doesn't he have friends!

Awesome..some real skills on show. Not too hard a wave when it like this imo. I would give it a go.

I would love to see a min volume introduced for everyone. 110L or there abouts…. and it would be like what lots of us surf.

No I am not joking. Guess I am too busy sailing and surfing myself to hang around listening to the gossip about whose hot and whose not?

Then again, when I was a kid I lived at Blacksmiths next door to Rex Elvin. Gave me some top tips in life!

Bet your never heard of him either? Might be worth asking your grandparents.

Unfortunately, my only real link to other people's crap is the freaking internet. Commonse should be telling me to even leave this alone?

Hey you asked the question and even went looking for the gossip. Can't have it both ways.

Not that I could sense immediate sarcasm from someone hiding behind a fake profile wanting to give me a hard time?????

Yes, Rex was a ""Legend". One of the last of the old school Gentlemen who followed a code of honour. Ask you grandparents.

As far as his wisdom goes, I don't "throw pearls at swine"! (Ha ha, Jesus gave me that one. Not a bad bloke, but his followers irritate the Christ out of me!)

Oh, it was awesome to watch James Casey in the final. Talk about challenging conditions. Even the Kiteboarders were getting out!

yeah sup surfing is doing a very good job of killing its self thankyou very much .

I have a theory surfers go real good on sup when they get the hang of it. very good surfers go nuts then after a while they fade. maybe sup induces bad, lazy, surf habits.

I believe you still need to surf a lot on what you used to surf to actually hold your form on surfing sups.

im going to get slaughter here but ive seen a lot of good ripping surf sup surfers come and go

It is just an opinion...

These guys sink if they stop paddling..and have to sit down and wait. It becomes short board surfing with a paddle.

I don't know that it is killing itself, but like anything it is getting taken to the extreme in self discovery. Though I tend to agree, the race to the shortest board is taking it right back to the best board for performance on a wave which is, OMG.....a surf board
I have gone short ( for me ) and while it performs great on a wave, it will never surf like a surf board, and it has taken the fun factor out. SUP to me as I've come to realise is the "overall" experience. I love SUP and it has gotten me back into short (prone) boarding again. So on the day, conditions and mood will dictate what I will take out.
Bit like a sports bike and a cruiser. You can raise the foot pegs on a cruiser but the best bike for a twisty hill blast is a sports bike, and there are some that can put a sport bike rider to shame on a cruiser. (I'm not one of them)

I liked watching it and could appreciate the skill and power some showed using the paddle to Good effect, the stuff I don't like is when they catch the wave and basically put the paddle away now that's silly. Should not compare it too prone surfing anyway completely different and a different skill set I reckon, just as long boarding is to short.
