Had 10 days on Oahu from 22nd July to 1 Aug.

Had an absolute blast doing some great distance paddles around the Windward Coast-but mainly paddled the breaks of Diamond Head/Waikiki/Ala Moana.

I've only ever been to Hawaii on surf trips in the past-after this trip I highly recommend it as a great SUP surfing trip for anyone wanting to escape the winter blues of OZ.

I think we need a new sub page Laurie dedicated to SUP travel. Including, locations,Board hire, and accomodation. Especially in Hawaii.....
Seems everyone travels there including me and always looking for good hire spots and
shops to visit for new inovations.

Cheers

Stayed with some friends over in Kailua-had a great paddle out to the Twin Moks-hard going first day upwind in 15-20knots-kinda' got conditioned quickly!

Dropped in to say g'day to Carol and Randy Naish-CRACKED a few jokes.....

I can give you the details of a GREAT homestay over in Kailua-PM me if interested.

Mainly surfed the South Shore-had some GREAT waves out at Tongs-near Diamond Head-and Aina Haina (near Hawaii Kai)-favourite spot was probably Populars way out in front of Queens and Canoes (Royal Hawaiian) and Tennis Courts at Ala Moana.

Crowds were fine-it's always busy-but if you can surf/paddle and you show respect-no issue at all. Plenty of waves-offshore was testing but made for a good workout and was a great equaliser for the less fit-trick was to sit slightly closer in and pick off the sets that others missed sitting too far out.

Took an LSD 808 (and my mate a Simon Anderson 906) and left them there-Simon A and Travis (from Walk on Water) are heading over there late August after the San Diego surf trade shows and a cruise up the Californian coast pimping the SUP boards-Simon and Travis will then sue the boards when in Hawaii and sell them there when they leave.

Again-a bloody GREAT trip-can't wait to head back over.

With my mate I was travelling with-used the wrong equipment as there wasn't much available in Kailua as it was out on rental for the Molokai.

I'll be taking my own boards hopefully next year on Hawaiian airline.
The far out reef straight out of outrigger reef/Pink hotel was the best spot last year.
Only 5-10 guys all day and long-long rides
You cant go past Outrigger on the beach hotel I don't care how much it costs.
Last year I only long boarded and only saw 2 SUPers for the whole 3 weeks.
One of them was Dino Miranda ,man he was having fun and riding the waves to the
beach all the time was good at connecting them .
I just Love the place and frothing to get back ASAP.

Yep we also stayed at the Outrigger on the beach back in 07,great spot.
Hazza do they still have the board rack system, hire the lock from the hotel and lose the key which cost $15 USD from memory? I only saw one guy on a SUP back then.

There is, by way of filter. You'll see on the main topic list page that loco4olas tagged his new topic with "Travel" .. This means that if you choose the drop down filter at the top to "Travel" it will only display topics tagged with Travel.

Means no flitting between 50-sub forums .. just filter what you'd like. Filter was only activated a month ago, so results will be limited for the moment. (Anybody wanting to go through an tag all the old topics, PM me!!)

Yep still do Mac.
The racks are mostly taken by annual quests that leave there boards there all year.
The only sup was a yellow 10.6 owned by a seppo older dude .
I stored a 12ft in the store room and the bell boys open the door .
Store room is free ,available racks are $25US now.
Spewing that I could not make it this year but hopefully It's on next year July
with the kids school holidays.

That's Populars-the wave I surfed heaps-Canoes and Queens on the inside of that.

Such a fun wave.

On SUP numbers-at the main breaks there were probably 2-5 SUPs per break-about 1 or 2 at each break were proficient-the others looked like 'late adopters'.

Good time to go is beginning of August as all the kids go back to school and it's heaps less crowded and cheaper.

Can't wait to get back there-super fun!
