At 7am this Friday morning SUP World Champion Kai Lenny will be appearing at Sandy Beach HQ Cafe. (Jetty Rd Sandringham) From 7.30 to 8.30 we're going for a social paddle with tips from Kai, followed by a fun Naish Nisco One design race and then breakfast upstairs with Kai and watch one of his latest movies until 11am. The full Naish demo range will also be available to demo, so come on down!...
Update: With a 15-25 knot westerly wind forecast tomorrow morning, Sandringham Harbour is the best place to SUP, being the most protected spot in Melbourne. After a meet and greet with Kai,the plan is to get in the water at 7.30 and launch to the left of the pier where it's most protected. For those who prefer not to get wet, you'll be able to watch Kai paddle from the Pier. For the more experienced paddlers, we're then going to paddle out around to the end of the breakwater into the swell, catch some waves and do some mini downwind runs to the Hampton LSC and then paddle back into the protected Harbour and do it all again. This should be fun and will give us a chance to see Kai in some downwind action! See you in the morning. Luke
P.s. The Cafe will be opening early at 8.30 for us and we've reserved upstairs for coffee and breakfast with Kai after paddling.
Hi Luke
We hope to be there for the paddle in the morning but won't be staying for Brekky, as it is Jono will be late for school due to an "appointment".
Here's some pics of SHQ's Kai Lenny clinic this morning. Kai spent an hour giving tips on paddle technique to a keen crew braving a cold wind. Kai spent half his time coaching young Raife and Noah and who were sooo excited to meet their idol! What a great role model and ambassador for the kids, and the sport of stand up paddling. Afterwards we warmed up at Sandy Beach Cafe, where Kai devoured the famous ''Big Breakfast'', signed posters for the kids and chatted with everyone over coffee. All we can say is ''Positively Kai!
Thanks to everyone who braved the cool morning and joined Kai's clinic this morning. No doubt we all picked up some great tips from the World Champ! A big Thankyou to Naish for bringing Kai out to our shores!
I know its a cliche, but what a perfect ambassadore Kai is for Naish. His intereraction with the kids and the time he spent making those kids feel special, was really terrific.
Big thanks to Naish and Luke for a real fun morning.
