Hi there,
New to Seabreeze, I have been living at Lennox Head now for about 8 months and frequently travel back to the Goldie for work etc. I have been suping Lennox Head point on the odd occasion, with a little agro from the local surfers. A few months back I was out there on my JP 8' and saw Billy Riddell out surfing on his shortboard, I havent seen Billy for a few years now, I used to compete against him in open ocean race ski's, which funny enough he would kick my arse. He was ripping on a 6'0 DHD in solid 6 foot plus waves, he then asked me for a go on my board, I was a bit reluctant as I didn't know that he could even use a SUP, well again he ripped on that. Funny enough I was in Mermaid Beach the other day and took the kids to the playground off Hedges and he was in the park doing chin ups on the bars, I watched him for about 30 mins and he wqs still going, is he now trying to take on Eckstein's record, I tried to approach him however I think he might have lost it a bit as he was mumbling away to himself something about his shoulder and back being f.... does anyone know what he is up to or where he lives, he is a strange character and seems to change sports all the time??
Welcome some SUP riders down to Lennox - however need to respect the local surfers.
Cheers,
Davo
Lennox
Are his ears any bigger.. We used to call him Billy big ears..
He's very nice guy.. He used to work with DC (Dale) many years ago..
I'd love to catch up with him one day.. As for SUPing at Lennox Head.. I think I'll pass on that..
Dogman has no problem jumping in off the rocks at Lennox Head point and mixing it with the local surfers but then he's Dogman..

didn't get to close to him to check his ears, he had a peak hat on and he seems very intense now on what the hell he is trying to do on the monkey bars. I would like to have a chat with him again, any idea on how to contact him?
Hi Davo,
Re Lennox I surf there alot on my sup BUT very rarely will you see me on the point. Only when it's sh!t and no one is out. It's just one of those places Like Burleigh , D-Bah . Snapper ect you just don't go unless you have some real background there and can hold your own. Lennox has some of the best beaches you don't need to surf the point. They are some real old time hell bent locals at Lennox that just hate. Trust me I have meet them , so not that cool to put a public post out to suppers to come to Lennox. It really is a beautiful spot with some gnarly beach breaks , more to surf than just the point
I second that Piros... If possible ..on a SUP, it is easy to get into the surrounding beach breaks.
But no one owns the ocean if you are respectful you can surf anywhere.. But sometimes being respectful means paddling down to the next spot or waiting your turn out wide or going out early and finishing early on a finite resource and letting other people get heaps of waves. Be fair but don't be a pushover because there will invariably be some surfer that will try the intimidation thing to get you off their wave.. Don't take it personally.. They will try it on everyone, girls, surfers from other cultures, teenagers..You are just a prime target , unless you are seen to show respect. Piros is right and dogman is too.. They both show and earn respect with whoever is in the water through years of experience. we should all try to emulate that as much as possible and try to stay out of the local gossip if possible..

No worries Marky come to the Goldie and paddle out at D-Bah with that theory and see how long it is before your nose suddenly starts to bleed. My point is certain areas are no go just respect that , there are so many places we can surf that others can't just go there and enjoy the reduced crowds.
I tend to agree with Piros comments . There are some breaks where SUP,s should not be used .
Just because you have mastered the sub 10' sup or even scrambled your way down to sub 9' , is no reason to terrorise the local hollow point break.
There are options that suit SUP like Bombies , 2nd rate banks and other fun, hard to paddle into peaks . You will find uncrowded waves , just have a look .

Don't bother Piros.

I think it comes down to respect,I've seen JC and Dogman surf a couple of the so called no go zones on the GC,they surf well which prone people respect, but mainly its the relaxed vibe, chat, joke share a laugh and don't make pigs of themselves that wins the crew over. But I tend to agree with Piros.

Finally some sense comes from that dreaded room next door, if you need lessons about what should be going down in the line up especially a famous point break like Lennox you have no right being out there.
the ocean doesn't belong to anyone, but there are rules and the more time you spend in the ocean the more you will learn, when you surf like a **** surf **** breaks the better you get the more respect you get.
Get your heads out of your ass there are no rules of where you can sup and can't I just went to hawaii and supped near pipe could have supped at pipe but it was better just up the beach and also Makaha point both very local heavy spots no problems, i also sup the peak at Newport the point at Dee Why i have sup at snapper no problems and i dont take **** if it is given to me and no one else should either

good luck ....you charger !!
Probably need to do your own thing asup. I've found that's the best way at my local. Unless you're a dedicated noserider or slooooooow longboarder, found it's much more fun, beneficial and friendly to work the rest of the beach. I watch other sups upsetting people constantly and steer clear. The more i work the beach the more i discover better breaks under different conditions and the friendlier people become. Win win.

Have fun Markyb, but make sure that you don't get hurt, hurt others or spoil it for others.
Go hard young man but make sure you go home safely.

sorry Piros, didn't want to cause any issues or problems, I know a lot of the locals and as long as you are off the point a fair way, no issues, also billy seemed fine with them as he surfs on his shortboard a lot of the time when its big and tends to be pretty much respected.
hey guys all sensible comments ...i had a month at lennox last august ..surfed and paddleboarded approx up near nth lennox surf club ..had some awsome beachies basically to myself ...some days paddled down towards the pt ..but stayed away from the pack ..just great beach breaks ..clean and glassey..have fun.
If noel graham and Stoksy don't surf the point in lennox maybe there is a reason.
Nobody bothers supers at beachies in lennox mainly because no Supers bothers surfers at the point...
One of the best deal around IMO
Imagine if we coud have found a deal like that around byron....beautiful
Yeah I did a mission down the coast from the Goldie and surfed a lot of spots (SUPed).
Snapper, Pass, Lennox, Boulders, Angourie and a lot of others all the way down to Saltwater. They weren't all pumping but
always a number of people in the water and you can pick the locals. I was always really wide or down the point a bit.
At Boulders I sat really wide and hooted the good rides and picked off the bombs that came through as no one was ever
sitting that wide. The vibe between everyone was probably the best I've seen on the east coast...probably because it the
sets never stopped coming through!
If you know how to stay out of the way and keep the vibe relaxed you won't get ya nose broken. If the locals get home after
getting some waves and can't remember you being in the line up then you've probably done everything right.
BUT...In saying all that sometimes its easier to just surf down the road and get ya own fun ones. Most of us down in Vicco
tend to pick the other bank further down the beach or the not so good bank just to get it to ourselves. Those are the days
you remember.

Personally I took up SUP surfing to get away from the crowds and breaks where the **** wits dwell and I rediscovered my love of surfing and the ocean and I get sooooo many more wave than ever before. The more the locals hang in their tight little spots the bigger choice I have down the beach.

billy here, first time I have been on a forum, just wanted to say that I spend a lot of time in northern NSW predominantly surfing on shortboards in some secret secluded spots with minimal surfers and no SUP riders, I wouldn't start promoting Lenoxx etc as sup spots, keep the the SUP to the beaches with no surfers otherwise I think SUP riders will end up in a little trouble. Hey this is simply my opinion and coming from a surfers perspective.
cheers,
billy
