I just bought a lockrack for my Naish Javelin 14 x 24. Th base of the lockrack is just 2 to 3 cm too small in width. I have the 50cm width. Should I buy the 65cm width or just put the Bottom of the Javelin on the base? The last option I find a bit scary (carbon bottom). Any opinions, thx in advance.

No it's fine, I have a 28" wide board and its fine. The rack doesn't have to extend the width of the board.

Agree with Mick. That's fine. Base doesn't have to be as wide as board. I got a custom pad made for my base extra protection and softer too

I'm keen to see a photo of your custom pad, I find the rubbers on the base leave grooves in the deck pad of my board if I'm lazy and don't put my board in a bag. Which is all the time! Have been thinking of adding some extra cushioning to the base.

The width of the rack is fine , you can cable tie or tape smooth foam padding over the rubber if you feel the need .

Mate I used a daikine roof rack pad..took it into a marine canvas place got them to cut it down to size so it fitted between the two lockrack lock keys ( u dont those covered) and also got them to extend the Velcro so that it easily wrapped around the lockrack base and the whisper bar rack. Works awesome and also stopped the boardbag from hitting the car roof..no noise! Silent mode.

Thx!
if I understand it well:
So you lay the bottom of your board on the base of the lockrack? If that's the case I put some extra soft protection on it, because the base of the board is full carbon and proner to damages than the thicker deck and sides of the board.

Hi, Mike do you put the bottom of the board on the base of the lockrack? Not afraid of damages to the bottom of the board than?

Yip . All my boards are full carbon. I've had no issues with this system. Boards are secure and safe. Best money I've spent. Will try get you guys a photo

I would generally say with the deck against the rack, but if the board has recessed deck and the edge is against sliding lock component you will have to either build pad up or have bottom of board down, you wont hurt it loading base down but it will leave black marks from lockrack (erase using magic rubber)

Does anyone have trouble unlocking? I have a lot of trouble when I've put the clamps a bit tight and it takes a bit of effort to unlock it.
I also bought an extra set of shorter clamps for carrying a single board which looks a lot neater than the large two board arms.

Initially yes, but when I worked out to push clamps in as you turn the key it has been fine. Destroyed a couple of keys, but better them than the lock
