The Magoo Charity Classic is on again on the NSW Central Coast: 4-5 May at Soldiers Beach or nearby. Plenty of accommodation options and usually good waves.
See here for more info and online registration: magoocharityclassic.com.au/
This is a charity event honouring 'Magoo', a local and national legend, and all money raised goes to cancer research.
Last year proved a poor showing in the SUP division for various reasons and the organisers are thinking of cancelling SUPs in future Magoo Classics. This would be a shame as there are not many events for us. If you can spare the time to enter it would not only raise the profile of SUPs and help out cancer research you'll find it to be a good weekend in some nice Central Coast waves.
Cheers, everyone - hope to see people there.
I'm in.
Anyone keen try and pry the Magoo title out of my hands? There's a challenge!
Rego now before all the heats are full.
Keen, but I need to find an 8' comp SUP that suits me!
At the least, I will enter for a bit of fun while concentrating a bit more on the longboard divisions.
That's cool! I rode my 10' Starboard Whopper in the final and came 2nd to you Cassso...
We could be riding 2' Soldiers beach breaks or 6' reefs....come prepared!
Wow, still can't believe I won the SUP! I was more expecting to win the 0/45 Longboard where I got second with another win in the Old Mal.
This was an awesome comp with the great vibe that I can remember from the early 90's. With local longboard legends like Danny Bond and Peter Sharpe entering the SUP us paddlers definitely did NOT get the stink-eye.
In the challenging conditions Danny went on to win the O/60's longboard. The Magoo Cup. Shows that riding a SUP is perfect cross training for surfing and extends your longevity.
A big one up too to Casso who gave away time that could have got him the winning wave to assist the youngster who got in trouble during the final.
It would be great to see even more support from the SUP community next year. It was an top event for a great cause as well as a top family weekend out. See you there!

Well done guys!
Would have loved to come just too much on ATM. Hopefully it still holds the SUP next year.
Well done to all SUP competitors who excelled in the sometimes trying conditions. Hope to see you all back next year.
A special well done to Sharpie - not the youngest or smallest guy in the final but he still rips, especially when he gets a sniff of any left-hander that comes his way.
...but a bit annoyed and/or embarrassed that 4 out of the 14 who entered were NO SHOWS. Doesn't make us look like we're keen and committed. Let's do better next year or they will can the SUP section - which would be a real shame!
What happened to young Harry?
Don't be fooled by the photos. The conditions were rough and quite powerful with a strong rip at the southern end of the competition zone. The rip was pretty much the only place to make it out on any board. Unfortunately the odd bigger set was closing out the area.
Harry lost his board and started to struggle in the rip. Casso was in the vicinity, noticed he was starting to panic and did not hesitate to go to his aid.
well done Shane and wow Casso thats 2 comps where you had to help someone out had to help my sorry arse at central coast also big thumbs up
Hey guys, Jordan from live Your Life was up there taking photos all week end.
