Could anyone travelling to Merimbula tonight or tomorrow morning keep an eye out for a 10'6" Fanatic Fly in a Naish bag, probably about 15 minutes the Melbourne side of Cann River.
It may be slightly damaged having departed the roof at 100K I assume.
"What was that noise?"
Anyone who wants to post "Left my paddle at Cottesloe" and was too embarrassed, the coast is clear.
This was leaving.

This was my triumphant arrival.
"Hang on, where's the Fly?"

That sucks!

Do you know how/why it happened? .. So it doesnt happen to me or anyone else

Is it worthwhile calling the local cops/servo etc?
Thanks and Good luck

Ahhh that brings back memories of the time I thought Id take my favourite simon anderson board down the F3 from the central coast to leave at my parents so when i catch the ferry over id have a good board to surf, anyway as i was putting it on the roof racks a mate who knows EVERYTHING dropped by and proceeded to tell me that my quadriple granny knot multiple half hitch wouldn't hold so did his foolproof truckie knot while telling me it was good for a 4G torque turn in an F18,so going down the Mooney Mooney bridge and hear a noise, look in the rear view mirror and see my board bag twirling in the air, landing about 20 metres from the finish of the bridge, pull over watch a car change lanes to miss it and get ready to dash and grab only to look up the hill and see 3 trucks barrelling down the hill, first truck it goes between the wheels and brings it closer to me,2nd truck changes lane while 3rd truck with a smile on the drivers dial puts 9 of his 18 wheels straight over it,I dashed out and grabbed it in a break in traffic and tipped out a jigsaw puzzle of fibreglass foam and fins from my board bag-I hope you get yours back in one piece

Dumbest thing I've done (and that's saying something) since I watched a Skiff Moth barrel roll off the trailer behind me.
Thankfully Helmy following, no other witnesses.
Thread your tie downs inside the roof rack supports, not outside.

I'll look out for it tomorrow..

Boards coming off at 100 kph can fly a long way like a ruler when you throw it sideways.. I've heard of boards landing in a tree a 100 meters from the road..

Fingers crossed..

I'll drive back past Cann River in the morning, but it may have departed earlier, so anyone keeping a watch much appreciated.
If there's a car on the other side of the road with a Fanatic Fly sticking out of the windscreen, keep driving.

Bad luck Nozza
Been there a few times myself
Nothing like putting the end of a mast through the fire wall of a volvo coming the other way as in The Coutsy incident.
Or the Spongy boat roll with trailer in Sydney on the way to the skiff harbour marathon
righting off 2 boats coming back from perth nationals

Hope you find your board
keep an eye out for a damaged board on the roof of someone else's car
Have you been for a paddle with Keith yet ?

Could be worse, could have been a custom F16.

There is a story of another traveller heading that way at this time of year (a couple of years ago) whose whole roof racks came off and were lost for good, boards and all. Not sure if it's apocryphal but...

Ah, yes...

Ask Andrew McDougall how far a Mach 2 travels as it launches off the roof of a car at 100+ km/h?

There's nothing quite like shipping a boat half way around the world only to see it next to you in the right hand lane on a motorway. Not a good way to start a regatta as you see it hit a centre barrier and land upside down on the wrong side of the road.

Good luck in your hunting and gathering today!

Just back from driving 350 km round trip, no sign of it.
Probably would not have landed well anyway.

Thanks DJ, I have an unpaddled 10'6" Nalu that I bought when Warwick was closing.
Was going to be the daughter's board, but now I have a new one and they have missed out

Do you have to signal before you turn over your side of the country?

Turn?
That's the struggle to go straight.
You try learning at 53 years old and look stylish.

Nice one Nozza
We should get together with Danno and have a old blokes on big boards who can't surf contest
Maybe we can come down to Merimbula next year and set up our own division
Nice board shorts I always wondered what happened to that old hawaiin shirt of mine.
I really can't believe you still have that Jag is it the same one that caught on fire driving home from the pub.

10'6" is a better size for OB's anyway
Good luck in the contest
Don't let anyone tell you you are not a natural
