Heya Seabreezers.

Im a relative newcomer to the sport of SUP and have been hooked over the last 15 months. This year I set a goal of being able to compete in the 2015 Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard challenge.

Thats 18 months of solid training to get the training and skills up on my way to Hawaii. Difficult but not unachievable.

This forum has heaps of great stuff and cool videos of people shredding, which I love!!, but it is lacks information on some of the training that would be required for me to achieve my goal....My number 1 supporter (Wife) convinced me to start up a blog. To share my experiences of learning, training and the whole journey with people who want to set themselves a challenge, however dont necessarily know how to do it.

Im going to be upfront....I don't have all the skills or experience....YET...or even all the right equipment...YET.... and ask for your support by +following me and your input to get me there. I am open to suggestions and feeback on what I can try out or do to to improve so please feel free to comment....good OR bad

Good luck with your goal Antix.
One bit of advice - get over to Maui in July'14 and do Maui/Molokai. It will give you a chance to experience that Hawaiin ocean in a relatively safe environment and also to get used to the board.
No amount of training in OZ would be better than a couple of weeks downwinding in the Hawaiin summer.
Mahalo.

Hey Antix

I am also planning to do the m2o in 2015, I see that you are on the Central Coast, I am up that way sometimes so might look you up for a paddle.

Cheers
Anton

Hi antix, good on you for setting this goal. I did my first Molokai last year after about 2 years of paddling a race board so train hard and you'll cross the channel no worries. What Kissa said is true and besides getting used to your board etc. you'll do the best downwinder in the world on the Maui to Molokai. I was there for a month and it was the trip of a life time.
The Molokai is such a rewarding race and the feeling I got in the channel was very cool and when I finished i was fairly emotional that it was over!
One thing I learned from that race was don't underestimate plenty of leg training. I struggled to walk when I got on land.
Good luck on the journey mate. It'll change your life:)

Great to see you having a crack and I'm surprised there are not a lot more Aussies committing themselves to this race given some of the top competitors we have. Either way you will get a lot of satisfaction for all the training and sense of adventure that comes with embarking on this type of goal.

Get in touch with Mick Di Betta and Kelly Margets from Currumbin. Mick won the very first crossing on a paddleboard back in the 90's and has been in the top handful of paddlers in all the crossing he's done (close to 20 years worth). Along with being closely involved in prone unlimited board design he also coached Jamie Mitchell through his reign and writes traning programs for some of the top paddlers including Travis Grant for his win last year.

No Brainer - speak to Mick and good luck.

Thanks for your support, shout outs, tips and kind words fellas. Ill be sure to take everything on board and follow it all up.

The Maui to Molokai is definitely on the cards however I will most likely aim to be in Hawaii for the Triple Crown of SUP or a month to get a whole bunch of long runs in before the race, we had a huge holiday in Hawaii late last year so will have to squirrel away the pennies...know what I mean.

What a great end to the day and week - have a good one

Hi Antix, Have you contacted Will Anado, Central Coast Standup Paddle 0414234906.
He has done the M2O several times and won the 40-49 unlimited last year, also sets training programs and trains with Terrene Black for this race.
He will know exactly what you need.

Yep Will is good for sure, I have also been setting training programs for all levels of paddlers for many years so it is awesome to finally have a good selection of coach's and trainers available for the growing number of paddlers.

Starting to sus out my logistics now and will definately be heading over for the maui 2 Molokai race. All up I plan on being in Hawaii for about a month so I can smash out some downwinders which are near the final leg of the m2o, or battle it against a headwind to get a feel for the final approach into Oahu.
