So did the splits yesterday when back foot slipped off pad on my SB WP 8'2". Felt something snap on inside upper thigh, pretty awkward walking now so off water for a couple of weeks. Had been meaning to sort out the slippery grip as foot slipping has happened a few times now..... Had thought about taking a router to the pad but have a feeling even a grooved pad at the back will be slippery as its still the same pad material. Have some Monster spray. Aware this is not its intended usage but has anyone tried spraying it on pads to increase grip? I'd test first to make sure it doesn't melt it.

Monster grip's pretty aggressive stuff on bare feet

alternatives. in order of ease:

CLEAN the pad with some sugar soap or similar and a stiff brush...might just be accumulated toe jam, mould and other gunge making it slippery

wax the pad

rough up the pad with some course sandpaper (60 grit or something), see how that goes and if you need more, score it up a bit with an old hacksaw blade

replace the pad

Just wax it or replace it. To get the old grip off just lay an old towel over and soak in turps , let it sit over night and it dissolves the glue .Don't let the turps into any dings it can eat the foam.

Thanks guys, yep got the Monster spray concept banished from the potential solutions list. Going to replace the section just in front of the stomp pad with some new grip cut from this Creatures of Leisure stuff http://www.realsurf.co.nz/shop/sect/products_detail/cat/surfboard-wax-grip/cat1/creatures-grip/p/creatures-grip-sheet-510-x-510mm/

See this link: www.deckgrips.com/grip%20patterns.htm

The 3mm is grippy but light compared with the 5mm stuff.

Thanks man, as it turns out I've pinged the hammy in the spilts episode so in the interests of not doing it again I'll go the deeper grip stuff. Its only for a couple of patches where the back foot goes in the bottom turn so not worried about weight and water absorption. And i typically store the board wet in a bag, which I'm not sure would be good for a thinner grip with a more moulded texture.

"Pinged" my hammy last year in a similar situation. 2 weeks later I was feeling ok (actually forgot all about it) and went for a kick of footy with my young fella on Father's Day, took a step - went to kick and..."ping" again! Only a week later and I was back on the sup though, albeit very cautiously.

Fixed it...... before and after pics. Used all the tricks but even those small bits of grip were a beotch to remove.
