For those that are not aware the 1st race in this series is this weekend.

The Reef To Reef is a great course and is able to be run in both Southerly and Northerly winds.

If you want to know more follow the Face Book page "NSW SUP Downwind Series."

The details below cover the series information.
After discussions with a number of event organisers a new downwind series has been put together. Unlike the last series this one will not be run by the Sydney Paddle Surfing club. Each individual race organiser will be responsible for their own race cordination , communication, and entry. Listed below are the various events and their contacts where applicable. If you have any questions regarding an event please contact the specific race co ordinator. In order to keep the SPSC... FB page from clogging up with series information all future communication will be via the NSW Down Wind Series Face Book page (Formerly the Sydney Down Wind series page)

Just a reminder to get on line and enter.
For anyone wanting to dip their toe in a shorter race there will be a short course from Mona Vale to Newport also. Plenty of support and water safety so it's a great opportunity to see what this ocean racing is all about.

After nearly 40 SUPs turned up for some technical downwind conditions at last weeks Sea Cliff Challenge, interest is building in the series.

There are some great photos on the series FB page.

Due to a clash with the King of the Harbour event we have moved race 7 to Sunday 20th December. Event details as well as series info can be found on the NSW Downwind Series page on Face Book.

There will also be an event in January which will have a 2 day waiting period. More details to follow.

Quick post to cover last weekends Sea Cliff Ocean Challenge. Thanks to John Engel for the words taken from https://www.facebook.com/SydneySUPDownwindSeries/?fref=ts .

The Sea Cliff Ocean Challenge was held yesterday in some challenging and fun conditions. With the organizers going out of their way to run a SUP friendly downwind course over 40 downwind SUP competitors started an awesome downwind run. Following a difficult 2 km paddle out to see the race started in a strengthening breeze. While conditions were extremely choppy and difficult, paddlers were rewarded with steep drops and linking bumps right down the course. The normal personal rivalries continued with many of us still battling the same guys we were 5 years ago. The race was taken out by 2 of the countries top downwind specialists. Dave Kissane in 1st closely followed by Sam Parker in 2nd. Coming home strongly in 3rd and acknowledging the experience of the masters ahead of him was the ever smiling James Casey. Well done to the Kane boys for competing in such a rough ocean race.
<div class="text_exposed_show">A big thank you to the organizers and Paul Tracey for providing such a great SUP course and a big thank you to the paddlers who acknowledged their efforts and made the trip to "The Gong". Finally, thank you to Sam Parker at Wind Surf N Snow for once again providing prizes for the SUP division. Thanks to Denise Kane for the photos. Next weekend is the Central Coast downwind race ad for those not heading North the Race 4 Stace in Sydney. Cheers
John Engel.
