I bought this used Nalu and it seems in good shape. I believe it may be an older 2009 model but not sure. While I wait for my new one I'm going to give it a try and see what it's like. It came with the original thrust fins, and the large one is 10.5". Am thinking of getting a shorter 8" fin for smaller wave riding. Any thoughts?
Any thoughts on what leash would be fine for wave riding? 10ft? I see some folk use the knee straps rather than ankle.
I want to get a good paddle and believe the NAISH CARBON 85 VARIO RDS is a good option. There's also a Plus option which I believe has more carbon in it? Should I rather get the Plus option? It's quite a few dollars more.
On an 11' Nalu I use the smaller side fins once the waves are over 2'. I can really notice that they help hold in strong surf. For flat paddle or 2' and under I just use the single that came with it. It has a 9.0 written in it. I'm sure I could go an inch smaller though.
I've owned a few of those 11'4" Nalu's and one exactly like that.
A 10' long board leash is what I recomend.. and as far as fins go a 10" dolphin shaped fin is the best option IMO. Any smaller and the tail feels to drifty.
Seems the naish 11'4 is all i am surfing with at moment. Using standard naish centre fin with quality shapers S9 size side fins....it goes good
Have put a bit of extra traction so can get up the front more
I love the way those pads point you towards the nose, just in case you start drifting off in the wrong direction.

Must confess haven't got both feet up on the front pad yet........but if you in dodgy bumpy surf and you doing a kneeling take off......you still need extra traction on front deck. Otherwise you catch wave.....put hand on front deck to stand up......and your hand just slides off the deck
But i find myself standing in front of deck pad quite a bit.....even when paddling for the last few strokes when catching a wave

Awesome board! That one is a 2009 model. It was the first Naish Nalu to come with a stock deck grip already installed and stuck to the board from factory. The earlier 2008 models came blank with a snow camo deck grip.
I still remember getting my first Blank 2008 11.6 with the tribal wave tiki graphic. It was a work of art! hehe!!... Seriously, the finish on this massive new glossy timber board was captivating and screamed a new world of adventure on the ocean is ahead.
I then had to wait weeks for the deck grip to arrive!.... I couldn't wait.... and waxed up it ready for the early morning.
That is a classic timeless board you have there WCC. 10 years on and still going strong!
Its a keeper.

Thanks Luke, your post made me smile and now I am even more stoked with the purchase. I've paid $400 for it and thought it was a good price given the great condition it is in. I really appreciate the bit of history.
Can't wait to take it out but it will only be over the holidays next month.
Got to try this board out for the first time yesterday and what a blast. Even though the old girl is almost 10 years old she is very stable and a pleasure to use. This one will be a keeper for sure.
