Had the chance to watch this today, if you have not heard of it is about the senseless killing of dolphins secretly in Taiji Japan.
Made me very angry and have now diverted my donations to ocean causes. As well siging all on line petitions, If you have not seen this I urge you to check it out. If you live locally on the Goldy I would be happy to lend my copy.
I cant believe that in this day and age , they want to still hunt whales.I watched a movie today about an Aboriginals tribes affinity with whales in South Oz and other places around the world , they would do these dances and songs , rituals ect and call the whales and low and behold these whales would come right up to the cliffs in the Bite.
Found a trailer for The Cove.
Basic story: 23,000 dolphins slaughtered annually in a cove in a beautiful part of Japan. Some sold alive to Dolphin aquariums, the rest killed to eat.
This doco is about the Ocean Preservation Society getting in to actually film the slaughter being kept top secret by the Japanese fisherman and the town of Taiji.
This was the place Rasta and Co went to a couple of years ago and paddled out into the bay of dolphins to try and highlight what was happening here. They were speared and then arrested.
Check out the trailer as below. This is insane. Header as below is Hayden Panitierre getting speared by a fisherman.
Faroe Island in the Denmark region is another that heard the Whales into a Cove, then kill the Whales. Seen some photos of them in action. Looks as though the Whales would of suffered considerably before being killed.
Rasta gave a talk about this at a work thing a few years ago and broke down on stage. Later that night I asked him what
we could do to help and he still couldn't talk about it. He said it was the most horrific thing he had ever encountered!
We also saw the video they made of the paddle out and I was blown away. When in Japan (snowboarding) I asked a
number of Japanese (not from Taiji, but from Tokyo area) about it and they don't even know it's going on.
It needs to stop. I've signed all the petitions but what else can we do.......?
I read yesterday that 'The Cove' will be screened in Japan.
This is the only hope of this stopping, the Japanese people need to make it stop. Otherwise it's just the West telling them what to do and they hate it. They will almost keep doing it just to not do what we tell them to.
The exposure in the west, the awards and the pressure is what has got it over there to be seen. Hopefully they are as upset about it as we are.
So who actually are these Japanese "nationalists" that are protesting? and what is their basis...that it is tradition and been going on for centuries? or is it as CMC says it is the West telling them what to do? Or are they people with financial interests?
I think I'll chase the film up I suppose the answers are probably in it.
