Anyone planning on doing the Great Ocean Paddle on the 2nd of Feb? Looks like there was only 1 Sup in it last year!
Yeah I think that was the lunatic from Roadknight. I'll have a crack this year but not sure about the full distance. There's a half distance option.
I'm looking at the full distance, as I want to get some longer distance race's under my belt. It would be great to have a few more sups out there with us!!
Nick Moloney, Justin Ormonde and myself are all in for the 26km - might be doing a training run this weekend....
Hi Chris I am doing the 26km race. Theres a couple of us doing it. Nick and I will probably do it on our unlimited boards though if conditions are good for it.
Looking at the long term weather forecast, it is looking ok with a SW wind 25 to 35kph.
One site has it at wsw and another at ssw, as long as it is SW, we will have a good run, and hopefully it's stronger than predicted.
Looks good. I'm happy with any sort of assist. But without a rudder, I'd prefer 15 knots in the right direction rather than 30+ knots with too much south in it.
So I guess we cant use our normal waist PFD's for the event ??
Also where can you buy orange smoke flare's - assume Boat shops sell or do they supply at the event?
Mandatory Equipment:
Please note that you will need the following mandatory equipment on you at all times during for the race:
Type 2 PFD, Australian Standard
Boat leash attaching you to you craft at all times outside the break zone
One orange smoke flare
One high visibility vest worn as your outermost layer (provided by us at rego)
Boat sticker with race number
Hi gang..we are planning to minimize the shuttle efforts and car logistics on the day so if keen we can meet at Core HQ in Torquay, leave cars there and load up for a drop off. If interested let me know and we will arrange a suitable time. Also registration is on Friday evening. Please let us know if you will not be down for registration so we can try to register for you or let the organizers know that you will register on the day if possible. My weather models are now showing quite a bit of Southerly in the forecast which is not ideal but a few models show the direction shifting a little South/West mid morning..fingers crossed.. cheers gang Nick
According to the website, you can "register" on Saturday morning, you just can't "enter" on Saturday morning. So for those who have pre-registered online, you just need to rock up to Fisho's on Saturday at 10am and get your number and hi-vis vest. Chris Clarke and I have booked to go on the bus to Urquharts.
Hey Paul looks like Justin is picking up a pack of 3 flares so I'm buying one of those so don't stress about bringing a spare...
Nick will be coming to core for a lift up to Urquarts ;) let me know what time's good or will call tomorrow - I'm registering Saturday morning
Looking forward to it !
Looks like only 2 entires at this point?
With the wind direction Kristi is going to do the Point Addis to Torquay 11.5k.
See you on the day.
Does anyone have a spare orange smoke flare?
Phill
So SUPers in the event that we know of are:
Nick Moloney
Justin Ormonde
Chris Clarke
Paul Harrington
Kristi Page
David Sprague
Not the best turnout to showcase our sport but will have to do - we need a strategy to beat home as many skii's as possible !! ;-)
I was talking to Simondo this morning and I think he will do the Addis start with Kristi.
Dave its a much better turn out than last year so things looking up!
As for beating the skis home, I have several solid fuel rocket motors we used years ago that might still work you just need to work out how to mount them?
Phill.
Yep that would be the perfect locartion on a SUP - would only need to use as a booster when required - who would know?? just claim beans for Dinner!
It's like a washing machine out there, I'm sitting in the Bells car park and its blowing from the south.
Just need it to turn a bit to the west and we'll have one hell of a race!!! Make sure you stay wide when going pass Bells!!!!
LOL I'm looking out my front window right now and you want to hope it goes araound a bit and drops a few notches...it looks about a little bit below howling at the moment....at leats it will be a fast run...
l just entered the short course after having so much fun in Thursdays nights Outlaw crit.
See you there
