Aloha from OG,
I currently have a Laird 12ftr and love riding this board in overhead waves but have found it more difficult to surf in smaller on shore conditions.
So the hunt is on for a shorter boardwith good stability that fits into tighter waves.
The main issue I have been having is that I am a bigger unit at 6' and 105kg and i have found most of the claims about board float and stability capabilities from my exerience seem to be less than accurate in flat water let alone surf. Most boards will work if your 65 -70kg however if your a Big Brudda its a very different thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I am not pretending that I am going to the surfing Olympics, but I am not exactly Gumby either.
NO BS Assessment from a Big Brudda
Today I stumbled across the PSH 10'6" all rounder. I borrowed one this evening and took it to the Barwon River for a paddle.
Having been disappointed several times by other boards I fully expected it to sink under my feet, but it didnt. I did get a few death wobbles at first but after 3 mins flat was kick turning this board with ease.
I was also able to lean back on the tail and the board seemed to just hold its position in the water with the nose stuck up in the air and was very stable indeed. It paddles fast and is very predictable in a flatwater turn.
I flipped the board over and it is relatively flat bottomed untill 650mm from the tail where there is a nice vee that i think will give it good rail to rail transition.
The hard edges in the tail extend 700mm from the tail and I beleive this will work well in the surf and make it nice and loose.
With an ENE first thing in the morning I am looking forward to a quick blast to see how this baby surfs. Fingers crossed.
I will supply the surfing reprt on the board tomorrow!
Hey,OG I agree with your comments on weight v's length! I currently paddle a 11.4 and being new ,I went to a demo day and paddled the same board you are talking about and I also was very impressed with the load this little sucker can handle and it turned on a one cent coin!WANT ONE!

I was listening to the radio thing on sup surf mag net today and the guys were raving about that same board... I'd love to try one.

Welcome to the Breeze Big Brudda!
Unless I am mistaken you probably have the 10'6 WIDE allrounder there from the pics.
The 10'6 all rounder is 28 3/8" x 4 5/8" vs the 10'6 WIDE all rounder which is 30" x 4 3/4" wide.
They look similar on paper until you paddle them!
Keep charging!

Hey OG SUP, is it the wide model or normal All Arounder? I paddled all the PSH boards down to the 9'6 wide Ripper on the flat at a demo day. I was thinking of going with the 9'6 All Around wide.....untill i got to demo it in some choppy surf. At 6'2 and 110 kegs it was a struggle. Loose as on the waves but too much of a trade off with stability, for me anyhow. On a glassy morning , no dramas but i want a board that is comfortable in all conditions (cos i only have one!). So my new PSH 10'6 wide All Around is only 7 sleeps away! YEEEEEEEWWW!
DJ, I have a psh 10-6 allrounder, not the wide , but your welcome to give her a try anytime. Rodriguez
Guys,
I measured the board last night and it is the 10'6" All rounder not the wide! Off to the beach in 30 mins to give it a crack and see what happens.
Me thinks the wide maybe the go though after all your feedback.
I may have to trade my wife in, our maybe live in the sand dunes, I think thats what she said. Or maybe something about divorce?????? Why would I divorce my Laird????
I am so confuzzled!!!!!!!!!!
Mate I am the exact same hieght and weight as you, and have no trouble on the 9 6" naish, this board rips for bigger guys The more I have this board out in juicier surf the more I love it, I also have the 8 6" surfshapes which also floats me fine, but yet to try In decent waves, probably tomorrow, see if you can have a go on the 9 6" naish, awesome board
Thanks for the feeback brooko,
Well this is the good and the bad!
Location was sign posts at 13th, not great waves (3ft maybe) but an average day with a slight onshore wind. I would normally kill these conditions on the Laird.
I could not paddle the 10-6 through the break no matter what i tried, it simply did not work for me. I also do not think that this aspect would improve enough in a reasonable period of time for it to be practicabe. (lack of skill and too much weight = very unstable busting through white water).
I prone paddled through the white water and stood up outside. The effort to stay shiney side up (I am bald) was significant. I could get up on the board and fight the death wobbles for about 5 mins at a time but all in all it was very difficult.
I tried repeatedly to paddle into waves, but the slightest change in board position either threw me off or I fell off the back. I am used to punching the foot back and driving hard and leaning down into the wave, with the 10-6 i was on egg shells the whole time.
I put the thinking cap on, rang Dave Boyd and borrowed some FCS twin fin fins( at least tice the fin area of the ones in the board when I got it) and put my old trusty 10 inch hatchet in the board and out for another round.
I did think the additional fin area would make a significant difference! It didnt really. It did extend the length of time doing death wobbles but it was still way out of my range and skills.
How does the board surf? MMMMM well lets put the paddle on the beach and prone paddle this sucker and see what happens????
The board prone paddles well as you would expect with the volume and it easily catches waves. When your up and standing it is very nimble for a board of the size and goes rail to rail really well. With a paddle for added leveage it would be a weapon.
Overall I believe it is a great SUB and would suit someone in the 85 - 95kg range and it would really surf like a weapon, alas the Big Brudda is still searching!!!!!
Some things I would change:
1) This board needs a center deck mounted handle to lug it around
2) I didnt like the flex fin it came with, but i prefer a stiffer center fin just personal choice.
See you in te Soup
Hey OG, get yourself on the 10'6 WIDE mate, Totally different ball game, stable as. Will post pics of mine when it arrives in a few days.
Hi OG
I have the 10'6" wide AA and love it. Only slightly less stable than the 11'6" Kalama which I started on. I have a handle installed which makes it so much easier to lug around. See www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=3299.0
for some handle ideas. I will probably be in Torquay on the weekend 21 22 March if you'd like to have a go on the wide.
Robdog
Hi Robdog,
I would love to try out the 10'6" AR Wide, The 10'6 AR is great but the gap in stability from what I am riding and enjoying now is just too big.
Let me know what time suites you etc.
Phill
Hey Robdog,
I am trying out the 11ft psh board on the weekend to see how it goes up against the Laird. Just like to say a big thank you to Rich at Strapper and Paul at SHQ and Dave at Imperial Surfboards for all thier help.
I have put a tail pad on the Laird and finally got to try it out in some clean 2fters last night. I found now with the tail pad I have a refernece for how far back I need to get on the Laird ( and its a long long way back) and did some great left go rights and some solid more aggresive turns.
Even got a few hoots from the local crew yellin out "Go Sweeper Go" laughs.
Last night we had 5 guys out and Kristi at a local secret spot. Kristi caught 2 abosolute smokers on her 8'9" Imperial, she has that look that says I have your number dad!!!!!!!!!.
Between the tail pad, the 8 1/4 cutaway and the new methane paddle for a big board it has made a huge improvement.
See you in the Soup
Phill.
