Christmas is done and dusted and the New Year is just a hangover today! - so it's time to start thinking about the first big SUP Racing event for Vicco in 2014.
SUP - The Open is again part of the Frankston Waterfront Festival on January 18 and 19 - with race events for all the family - including novice paddlers who want to try racing for the first time.
This year's 10km Downwind event includes a class for novice paddlers who may have been getting in some miles and now want to test themselves.
The event is also part of the SUP Vic 2014 Marathon Championship series - so get your entry in now.
Full event details on the event website:http://www.sup-theopen.com.au/
If you're planning on paddling in the downwind on the 19th - could you get your entries in early please? Just helps with the admin - particularly at this time of year
Latest forecast is for 15-20kt SW - S winds - so if the forecast prevails, the downwind on Saturday the 18th will start at Mornington - Mother's Beach and finish at Frankston.
Transport has been arranged from the event base in Frankston to Mornington, so if anyone wants to take advantage of this - please book online:http://www.sup-theopen.com.au/special-offers/transport-booking-downwind-competitors-saturday-18th/
See you Saturday!

Im looking at getting into downwinding.

After having had over 40's temp in Melb all week, the weather looks a little kinder for the weekends paddling with low 20's predicted... Phew
Conditions looking good for tomorrow's downwind - the Dogman will be holding fort - so come on down to Frankston this weekend for the Frankston Waterfront Festival.
whoops just checked the website to see where I was heading to in the morning and saw the bit about the car parking permits?
Couldn't find anything in my inbox? Hopefully a couple of boards on the roof will get me into the carpark....
Cheers Mel
Congratulations to all the racers who took part in the 10km Downwind race today.
A Southerly wind was not the ideal direction for the run from Mornington to Frankston - but 32 SUPs and 2 prone paddlers all completed the course dafely.
Congratulations to Matt Nottage who flew down from Queensland, raced, won the Open Men's ahead of Heath Meldrum and Zeb Walsh and then headed to the airport to fly back to Queensland!
Belinda Stowell Brett from Western Australia won the Open Women's Division ahead of Lucy Bell from Victoria.
Mornington Peninsula brothers Nick and Chris Clarke couldn't be separated in the Masters division - crossing the line together (in what was an act of chivalry!)
Michael Jenkins took out the Over 50s Men's Division.

As my second race event ever it was great to be so welcomed by all the other paddlers. Id like to thank all there PSUP crew. Very well organised especially on the safety side, had all the bases covered. Looking forward to the next one.
Yep had a lot of fun at the Sunday races, great to be getting some vocal support from the pier from the general public while racing.
It's amazing what a little bit of applause sounds like out on the water..
Thanks to the whole crew at PSup and Tha Dogman for letting me demo the Tiger Lily Gerry Lopez (stable as an aircraft carrier)
Cheers Mel
