Hi there,
I am new to the SUP scene. I have recently bought a SUP and am wondering how I can fix the surface scratches appear on the board. It seems that the board scratches easily. I have a few deep (ish) scratches. Not deep enough though that you can see the fiberglass but deep enough to feel if you run your hand over it.
I am just looking for a suitable sealant of some kind that may prevent it from getting worse. Couple of the scratches are on the under side of the board.
I have just bought rail tape for the sides.
Any advice or handy tips and tricks are much appreciated. I am keen to keep the board as nice as I can for as long as I can! :)

small scratches on shiny boards are a bit annoying i must admit, but other than using very fine sandpaper then buffing and risking sanding through the paint, possibly making the whole thing worse, there is not much you can do other than buying yourself a good board cover and using it religiously to stop any more scratches. try to work out how the scratches are happening and avoid.
Hi M,
I assume you are getting paddle chips and scratches. Bunnings have wide tapes which work. Simple to apply down the rails - you can then replace the tape every month or so - the better you get on the sup the less you need replace the tape.
happy supping

Thank you both for your quick repsonses. The scratches seem to just appear.
I have a board cover and definately use it religiously.
I know it is inevitable scratches are to occur. Should receive rail tape next week.
Thanks again for your advice. :)

There is a magic trick to remove scratches: clear varnish spray cans, like the ones used over car paints.
If the scratches are deep enough to feel them, just sand them by hand, and apply one or 2 layers of varnish, and ta-da! the board is brand new.
Do not use masking tape, to avoid seeing the transition between the varnished part and the rest of the board.
If you have some outer paint layer that has chipped away, I found that just pulling an extra thin epoxy resin layer with a gloved hand work nicely, with the layer so thin as to not be able to make drops. always sand before applying any resin otherwise it will fall away after some time.
As other said, for beginners rail tapes are nice. And afterwards, just some electric tape on the blade edges...
