our downwind crew are looking at getting a trailer built, anyone got any tips/pics to get us started on the design ?
Got a trailer to adapt for a Sunova sup carrier for my E bike........but you'll be looking for something bigger? 
I bought the frame of a 4.7m Dunbier boat trailer with no rollers or skids, and had a frame welded on to that.
I'll find some pictures and post later.

Thanks Giz, but looking to maybe fit upto 10 boards + the eski??
I dont think I have any pictures but I used a steel hand rail system to build the actual rack parts called key clamp, there are all sorts of different brackets you can get and means you can adjust or add to it at any point.
This was the base trailer, with frame welded on.
I went for large spacing so I don't have to remove fins.
Went for 8 board capacity, but it would be pretty easy to fit 10.
I spray painted the steel with this stuff.
I got some waterproof carpet, and started to duct tape it to the cross bars. After doing about 3 I got sick of it and splurged on some Rhino Rack pads. This had the added advantage of coming with ties downs. I liquid nailed the pads as well as the Velcro fastening.
Having lost a board from the roof of the car when a tie down came off the end, I riveted saddles to the ends of the cross bars to thread tie downs through.
End result works well.
I plan to build a floor, and box in some storage for paddles and things.
P.S., went for 3 supports to cater for boards from 9' surf sup to 17'6" unlimited.
Two would probably do for a mainly 14'downwinder trailer.
Old mate recently bought a stock 7 x 5 box trailer with a long bar and had welded up a rack arrangement like Nozza's that bolts on/off. Box can accommodate other gear like paddles, wetties and other gear when in SUP mode but the box can also still be used for normal domestic purposes (trips to the tip and so forth) with the rack removed.
(edit, also like nozza, he riveted saddles to the ends of the bars to stop straps sliding off...)

You've got no idea how tedious drilling 48 holes to rivet on 24 saddles was,
3 sessions required.

Thanks Nozza, that looks like sort of thing we are after, the floor and box sounds good too, would be good to have a bit of weight down low as I can imagine we will be driving across the causeway in 40knts, don't want it all to end up in the water.
Trailer weight for a 4.7m powerboat would be pretty hefty should cope with wind loading on sups.
Easy to buy the base trailer, so you have a sound, road registered base to start from.
Uprights are I think 50mm box, cross bars 50mm angle.
Engineer that did the welding thought the biggest risk was sudden braking folding everything forward, hence the brace to the ex winch upright.
Have had the thought that a Thule ski box mounted low would be good for paddles etc.
Or maybe mounted top central

Yep, the boat trailer base certainly sounds the way to go and maybe an A frame rack, with paddle box in the middle.

Originally a 9 seater, I have removed the back two rows of seats.
Long enough to sleep behind the remaining seats, I have fitted fridge, 240 volt power, microwave and toaster.
In campervan mode...
Front seats swivel to form a lounge area
Or in more normal weekday mode, fits bike, skateboards, paddles, paddling gear all behind the back seat...
Post morning paddle coffee and breakfast.
And has clothes airing rails across the inside of the roof for drying towels and gear.
Just found this thread and I am selling my windsurf trailer on accessories windsurf.
