The 3rd event in the Sydney SUP downwind series is on this weekend. This series is probably the only series in the world with a 2 day window for each race throughout the series. Courses will run either North or South from various beaches.

RACE DATES, POINT SYSTEM & CATEGORIES:

The seven events included in total point score with 6 Sydney SUPDW Series Races scheduled:

- 20th September 2013 (Reef2Reef)
- 26/27th October 2013
- 16/17th November 2013
- 21/22nd December 2013
- 11/12 January 2014
- 15/16th Feb 2014
- 1/2nd March 2014

There are 6 race categories for the series:

1. Men's Open 14' and over

2. Men's 14' and over - Over 50's

3. Men's 14' and over - Over 40's

4. Men's 12'6"

5. Women's Open 14' and over

6. Women's 12'6"

Points will be allocated for each race in each category as follows:

1st place ..... 1 point

2nd place......2 points down to

10th place....10 points with all places beyond 10th receiving 10 points.

If you do not race in any event you will receive 10 points for that race.

Each competitor will be able to drop the worst 2 results (including missed races) from the seven races to determine their overall series points score.

The winner in each category is the person with the lowest cumulative points score after subtracting their worst 2 scores. Category winners will each receive a series trophy.

The major prizes for the series will be randomly drawn.

Each race will be individually sponsored and there will be up to $500 of randomly drawn prizes available to all race participants at the presentations at the conclusion of each race.

In addition there will be another $500 of prize value allocated to the end of the series from each race - culminating in over $3,000 of prizes to be won at the conclusion of the series.

As an encouragement for participation and support of the entire series, racers will need to compete in at least 4 events to be included in the major prize draws at the series conclusion. These prizes may include a high value individual prize such as a new board subject to sponsor engagement.

Yes Casso, just the one length due to safety support. It should be a breeze on your 12'6".

We will put out more info tomorrow evening. This is a much longer race so we need to make sure all competitors who enter are capable of completing the distance.

Stand Up Paddle Gear race 2 of the Sydney Dup Downwind Series will be held on SUNDAY 17th from Long Reef to North Avalon.

Conditions at the moment are looking good and competitors can look forward to a challenging downwind run.

As per the original post on Sea Breeze there is no 12'6" or inflatable class due to safety issues. Additionally there is no short course available due to a surf carnival being held at Newport. These decisions were made with consideration for the safety of all competitors.

Registration will be at Long Reef (Brownwater) between 12 noon and 1:30pm. Race briefing will be at 1:30pm. We plan to get the race underway at 2pm.

Please remember that each competitor needs an approved PFD, LEG ROPE & HI VIZ TOP.

URGENT MESSAGE FOR COMPETITORS.

Official post from the organisers: RACE IS CANCELLED due to poor weather and safety concerns and after discussions with water ways this is the best course of action. Stay tuned for further details.

Thanks to everyone for your amazing ongoing support and interest in the DW Series - we were expecting up to 50 racers or more for today's event.

The safety of all competitors will always be the first priority for the organisers and with the dangerous surf conditions and closures of up to 10 beaches along the course coupled with visibility concerns - meant there was no option but to cancel the race.

We will look at adding an extra race as schedule permits or have a double points score race to compensate for today.

Whilst its disappointing, this is the nature of the sport and we appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at the next race.

Put it in your diaries - the Stand Up Gear Australia Race 3 of the Sydney SUP Downwind Series on the weekend of December 21/22. Registration opening soon.

Now we all have extra time for some training and perhaps a Pete Dorries clinic before the next race !! Have fun

Saw it was bad, option could have been what I did with a few mates, bay view to palm beach run in Pittwater. Always good fun in bad weather and strong winds up to 40 knots.

Yes the Pittwater run is always a good option and quite a few did that later in the day. Once again though you can't just change race venues as there are aquatic licences and insurance to be set up. There is a lot involved in organising these races and as competitors at the Nationals even experienced you just can't change venues easily. All is good until something goes wrong and then it all hits the fan.

Thanks everyone for your understanding but unfortunately safety of competitors had to prevail.
