"Polar beat" records everything and you can export data. There will be thousands of gps style apps

Yes, another vote for MotionX. It is handy to be able to set up regular automatic email location notification messages to chosen people when I am doing big downwinders a long way offshore. Just in case the worst happens. DJ's buoy-hugging episode from way back when might not have looked quite so epically bleak if he'd used that facility.
I just use Google "My Tracks" on phone and watch, works fine and has all the data and maps etc. Also backs up to Google Drive if your on Android. Have tried most of the others but Tracks seems to integrate better with the phone GPS for some reason.
I have found Strava to work well. Coming from cycling to novice paddler I've used it and works well.
Cheers for assistance all. Am particularly interested in a good numerical display. Have found an app which has the display as per above but it doesn't provide outputs. Do the apps you've suggested have a display option like this?
