Hi All,
I have been given one of these action cams for my birthday. I've been looking at various mounts and seen lots of you have on board cameras, so what is the collective wisdom on mounting these things to a board? The Sony mounts use an adhesive backed system to stick on the board which I am not that keen putting on the 10ft nose rider. My other board has an FCS mount in the nose that I could likely use but it is short at 7.11 so I'd probably fall on it in the surf.
I note there are lots of wearable contraptions, floats and tethers also. So please if you have experience of videoing your ride post some pics or write a description of your mounting system. I see DJ sticks his on the paddle.
thanks for your responses in advance.

I have used adhesive mounts on the nose, which work really well (if you actually sand the area you are going to put it on). a paddle mount which is my favorite and also a sort of backpack mount which is uncomfortable but does really cool shots. My advice is to buy a heap and play with them and find a fav to use.

I have the Sony AS30V and the AS15, both are very good cameras, i use the sony adhesive mount for Surf board and work fine, and still on the same place without any problems. Just clean the area and use alcohol to clean and then paste and wait.

There are something happens to me, sometimes when the waves are big the camera dismount from this surf boar mount, and hit the board. In one occasion after the Hit i just put back on position, and continued surfing. And the end of the day the waves was bigger as normal. But when i check the video nothing was recorded. ( This happens after loose and spin in the water and hit board , the memory card move and stop to record ). Just make sure when this happens check if the camera still recording.

Another day the camera hit the board and accidental push the video button and turn off. (For this used the block position, to avoid this).

When the water is to cold the lens get blurry, this is for the heat create for the camera. You can used the GoPro product to avoid this or google there other options to avoid this condensations.

En general the Sony Action Cam is amazing.

Enjoy

Dack, I have filmed a lot, to do board reviews and have tried several different mounting theories.

Never had an FCS mount, but I would like one. So I used the GoPro "stick on" mount.
It works very well... the only time I ever had an issue, I fell off the nose really hard and my knee actually ripped the mount off the deck. The glue never failed... it actually ripped the paint off the board.

The deck mount has the inherent problem of "bad angle"... but gets some fun/useful video every now and then.
I am horrible with the paddle cam.

My best videos come from my headmount cam... if I have it positioned properly on my head.
I am regular foot, so I always mount it on the left corner of my forehead... aimed slightly down.
This vantage point works equally well frontside or backside.
To visualize what the camera sees:
Stand against a wall... pretend it is a wave face.
"Surf" the wall.... regardless of which way you are surfing.... the cam is looking at the wave face, directly in front of the board.
If you point it at the right degree "down" it will capture where you are going... the board and the wave face, for a good look at the action. Hard to get it all right... but when you do, the video is worthwhile.

Here are 3 examples of how the head cam mounted on left corner of forehead - regular foot (right side corner of forehead if goofy foot)
Frontside or back side.... the viewpoint is the same
plus the benefit of filming your buddies as well.
