Not sure yet where Lina finished or how close points will be between her and Angie heading into tomorrow.

(BTW Waterman League have put an apology on their facebook page about some problems with the live feed. From watching, or trying to watch, it we all saw it wasn't great, but at least they're trying something new and not leaving it to 3rd party coverage like BOP. Can only improve from here.)

What was the controversy I'm hearing? Something about a course change that not everyone knew about? And a missing buoy? Hope this isn't going to turn into a protest and legal fight to decide the title.

Yes last minute course start change by race director however everyone knew.

We were ment to follow lead jetski out thru a large channel about 500m down the cove however the race director basically said ok u can take a chance and punch it thru the surf or take the channel.

Most racers punch it and it paid off for some. Some racers took the channel.

It was amazing today! The ocean is unreal! Shame about the last 2km headwind hahaha. I hate upwind paddling and watch fiona pass me by to take the win.

All good and im pumped for tomorrows sprints. Surf is still going to be up and will make some great viewing and pics.

Wish me luck. I just need to finish ahead of lina.

X angie

Was sick to see jacko go nuts. you crazy man!

I agree PT this is the way a bop race should be run.. small heats of 5 even if it was 10 people looks a lot more organised out on the water. give everyone a chance to get into the semi's then a larger field for the finals.
Plus all these competitors really can handle this big surf..
oh and live streaming

Totally - live streaming is what it's all about. But more importantly, this format is actually commercial TV friendly - 5 minute races so commercial breaks can be easily integrated. THIS is what will spread SUP racing to a mass audience.

The other thing is, when someone loses it big time, as Jacko did earlier, there is much less chance that he is going to take out a bunch of competitors and potentially kill somebody when there are only 6 or so people in a heat. But at the same time, it's still exciting and fun to watch in the big conditions.

Arr what a day!! Have to feel for Ang have having her leash plug pull out of her board in the final and swimming her way to last which with Lina finishing 2nd today gave her the title.

Jake finished the year in 3rd place and 3rd for the event as well which is not what he wanted but still pretty bloody good i think!!

Tough day and now some time for some rest!!

I know I wasnt going to comment, but yeah I like concept small heats. Even if the over say fifties just banged off a one laper it would feel like a proper race instead of just being swarmed over be the hordes not really knowing what the hell is going on.
just bang the heats out.if your not there in time or whatever bad luck

I reckon thats the go

You're allowed to comment, Mark. It's only BoP discussions that you accepted a self-imposed post ban. This is not BoP, it's a superior format.

One improvement I would suggest to the organisers of this event - the competitor numbers are clearly not working for the commentators because they can't always be seen. The only people that could easily be recognised were the series leaders in the yellow rash shirts. Therefore, and given there were only 4-8 competitors in each heat, why not have a different colour rash shirt for each competitor, just like in surf comps?

But once again, and for the interests of those who take any suggestion or comment as a negative, I think this event was outstanding, far and away the best spectator event of the year.

Pt your on fire. Coloured rashes.

Jacko thats the way to go imo

Even I would do that. Just ticks all the boxes on safety, lower chances of board damage etc etc.

And would still be great to watch- even the over fifties. Racing is racing no matter what level

Jacko, angie, jake, peter...yes everybody has been doing unreal but did we watch the same race today??
Nobody here even mentioned Ke'ale Dorries, 16 years old from the the goldie getting, 2nd in her heat, directly qualifies for the finale, ending up 3rd in the finale beating Soni on the last wave
Fantastic effort Ke'ale keep on doing what you are doing
