It's easy to say 'two wrongs dont make a right' but when your confronted by a bully, physically threatening and abusing you sometimes you have no other choice but to defend your self.
I dont get the aggro of the old guy,he reminds me of that saying 'some people grow old while others grow up'.The surf, beach, lake, river what ever your fancy,is a place to enjoy, relax and share no matter what type of water activity you engage in.

Surf explore - my point was only that if this dude gets agro with anyone else out there we all know he has a bad habit of spearing boards at people & that s potentially super dangerous. I'm sure he will stop when the cops chat to him. Story Over - maybe he was just having a really bad day or week. We all have those.

Strangely enough spearing surfboards at other surfers was a common place event in the 1980's at very localized spotsz - many a North shore & J-Bay local speared boards at non locals dropping in on them but the practice faded when the spearing surfers started to get charged with assault and locked up by the cops)

- I'm not out to lock the guy up - just warn him stupid **** gets you into deep ****. So I'd rather not have a bad vibe story carried on ...

P.S

Love you 2 legion XXX

What is it about surfers being so territorial?

Probably because the sup guys have pushed in to an already crowded area and kept pushing until they've now taken over those three breaks in small swells.

On that subject I can remember surfing a certain famous NW left to myself in the 90s when the swell was below head and a half high. It was mellow super fun long walls running for 100s of meters. Anything over head and a half the crowd moved in as that's what everyone wanted (wave is much heavier when it's bigger).
Now it's wall to walls SUPs when it's smaller. Sad really.

holding someone under water is not cool, two wrongs don't make a right, how do you know he isn't a third dan black belt

Given the immediate threat of bodily assault, I would say holding the perpetrator under was an appropriate and proportionate response, which caused no actual harm. On the other hand, deliberately using the board as a weapon is a serious offence especially where it could have resulted in "wounding".

In passing, I am so over idiots who want to use the fact you.are on a. SUP to commit intimidation and/or assault. I hope they get what's coming, whether this be within the law or otherwise.

I think it's time we all carried GoPro's on SUPs as standard issue for "hard evidence" again agro surfers of all water craft, there is no place for it in the water, surfing is about having fun , young , old, experienced or grom.
We have all been a beginner at some stage whether it be a SUP or Surfboard.

Chill folks..

its definitly an interesting situation to be in. I recently took an AVO out on one of your mates KOP. Interesting guy that one. Only reason I did it is the cops advised me to once I told them who it was. Not something I do lightly. Never been in a court house before or dealt with anything like it. I been ignoring it for 12 months now but in the end ya just get over it,

He most certainly is is, especially where a user name like "king of the point" speaks for itself? There is really nothing else that needs to be read or said!

I just read this. Talks about possible solutions, User pay system, give more policing power to life guards, restrict people by ability and even to cut the dole to reduce numbers

That article brought back some memories.
Those car load of cowards farked off as quick as they came in.
It was a quiet night at the pub and wrong place/wrong time for Frog (never been known as Froggy).
When they swarmed Mckeon st, the Brazos were having their BJJ Xmas bbq with the local BJJ guys across the road in the park.
When the 150+ cowards hit the pub, the boys ran over and a crew of about 5 brazos and 5 locals started dropping them like flies.
The cowards thought they had safety in numbers WRONG.
They bolted with their tail up their ar5es.

I recall the following arvo we had approx 200 locals armed and ready for whatever.
The word was out that they were regathering in big numbers in their local areas and looking to return.
The scary part was nobody really knew how far it would escalate.
The cops handled the following week very well with lockdowns on all eastern beaches until it simmered down.
Without these lockdowns there would have been people killed 100%.
