Fairly new to this sport. Heavily addicted needless to say.
So Bayview to Palm Beach - it strikes me that this should be a great 10km downwinder in a howling winter southerly, yes? I havent heard any talk about it.
Arguably one of the best runs in Sydney!
The 9k Pittwater Classic at the Sydney SUP Festival last month, took this line. It's a fun run even in 12-15 knots!
Plenty of guys doing this run regularly when a good Southerly hits. Probably the best way to hook up with likeminded others is through this link on Facebook www.facebook.com/groups/sydneydownwind/
Looks on for Saturday arvo/ Sunday morning.
shhhh. It's terrible and won't be any good on Sunday morning.
Launch at Bayview tennis court.
If you're doing multiple runs forget the drive back to Bayview as the best part of the run happens from the Southern end of Clareville until Palmie ferry wharf. Just return to the naval base at Clareville and go from there. When it honks its on and if you do the "Clareville Cut" you can get multiple runs in on the best part of water.
A few of us did it one year in consistent 40 knot plus with recorded gusts above 70. The worst part was the drive as trees and power lines were down everywhere.
The ocean downwinders are better, but it's a good safe run to get into downwinding. It can be busy on weekends so you need to be aware of other Pittwater users so that Maritime doesn't shut us down.
Awesome thanks for the info guys, that is about what I was thinking. And yes Sat avo is looking good.
Such a great fun event I cant wait to do it again next year and I cant wait for a chance to do it a few times over winter
I am new to the whole down-winding scene although i would be keen to have a crack at this route 1 day
You can get a DW in Botany bay in pretty much any breeze. Distances range from 6km to 10km depending on wind direction.
Its protected like pittwater so it lines up well.
Good fun place, especially if you are just cutting your teeth...
Depends on the wind direction... in the NE we start from cooks river boatramp in kyeemagh.
Finish there in the southerly with a start in kurnell to line it up the best...
Just follow the compass around and make sure you come down and say gday next tuesday and have a paddle!
OOOOOO another destination for us land locked paddlers as well. I am trying to get the crew convinced to do a weekend trip up to sample the waterways and anything that we can add to the mix is great.
