Why do you say that? There's a place in the sport for just mucking about, and this is a great way of doing that. Kids will love it.

It's probably gonna need a bit more nose rocker if you are gonna use it in surf though. But I imagine most of the purchases will be by clubs, schools, and rentals who are around flat water, and I'm sure as a lesson in teamwork it would work well.

I enjoyed the video. Slick mega-buck advertising doesn't do it for me. I've seen quite enough of elite SUPers doing things I'll never be able to do in places I'll never be able to afford to go to. They don't convince me to part with my money nearly as much as something like this does. Each to their own, I guess.

It's funny. It made me and the missus smile.

The funniest thing for me is the guy on the back gets to wear the leggie.

Apart from it being a hellofalotofun, what struck me was the team work required to make the thing work. At times when we were all in sync the craft really got some momentum happening. Instead of just one on the sup, each additional paddler created it's own dynamic, including unexpected wobbles and paddlers having a different idea of where we were heading. At first it seemed hard on the legs, accommodating the random strokes and the odd person falling off. We tried it with all different numbers, I thought 3 to 4 was best. With 8 people on, we really needed to get the strokes in sync, as you would hit the paddle in front or behind, and were concerned about the person in front falling on you.

The sensation of being on a wave was really something else and after a few failed attempts I thought we started to get the hang of it - except for the steering part - it would be bad luck if you were in it's path. I'm sure it' would just take more practice, but it left me feeling addicted and looking forward to trying it again.

Packing it up was almost as much fun. It came with it's own wheely bag and some instructions on how to get it in there, like paddling the thing, everyone had their own idea on how to do it. Packing it up also required several attempts before we got it right.

Sadly, the ripper wave you guys got out the back was not captured on camera. I think the GoPro had tilted down to face the board at that point as I couldn't find the vision.

If your having fun then who gives a ****, well done.
I reckon it would be a huge hit at the Disabled Surfers days so less fortunate people could experience the ocean.

Great idea..

A wheelchair would sit very safely in the center and with the board rail handles used as tie down points four people could paddle a disabled child/person and there'd be no chance of it tipping over on flat water..

Looking forward to a paddle down the Yarra with it..

and there's a stomp pad back there...bit optimistic

(that said, one of our "robust" members managed to get the nose up enough to make a passable attempt at a kick turn)

ok , looks like i,m wrong again ............... seems like the majority thinks its a good idea .

i still think its a marketing wank , that will end up gathering dust in someones shed . or maybe a camping bed for family tent ?

You're entitled to your opinion. but I'm struggling to understand the marketing wank bit.

On who's part?

Sup Vic, Starboard, an individual, or just the vibe?

If it's marketing wank by Starboard, I can assure you that they did much more than just produce a one off huge cheaply constructed inflatable board for the short term marketing value of it. The construction of it is impressive. It's got three air chambers, it came with two pumps, a useable bag, and to me it looked like much thought went into producing something that will last more than a few years.

Everything has a lifespan - when was the last time you updated your phone? I'm just not getting where you are coming from - it's like you have some deep seated hatred of it.

Please explain a little more?

So you've said the same thing three times now. I get it - it's a marketing ploy/wank, because it is. I don't know? I'm out of step, I'm off beat.

Just don't twist my arm and make me respond to this for a fourth time - I hate it. I'll never ride it - it's macdonalds, coke and nike rolled into one giant marketing gimmic that's messing with my head.

FFS LEAVE ME ALONE!

I've seen my young kids and a few mates do very similar on our 'Aqua Glide' with arms and legs going everywhere. It's also very robust and well-made as an inflatable. Wish I had pics, but they had just as many smiles as you guys did.

They are <10 years old and it's expected of that age - I feel like yelling "GROW UP YOU GUYS" to the guys in the vids above...but then why should you (we) when you (we) can still get to feel like a bunch of kids?

Purchased by SUPVIC from Starboard.

Inflatables from other manufactuers were considered.

Commercial transaction, market price, arm's length transaction, gst paid, all ATO Transfer Pricing laws adhered to.

Cleared by Senate Tax Inquiry.

Anyone else wanna have a shot?

Seems like FUN
And that's what life is all about
If the giant STARBOARD can be used to generate laughs and smiles on everyone's face then go for it.
The eco-centric (as opposed to ego-cenric) amongst us try to set up fun things for everyone not just ourselves
