I am so looking forward to this event, it was so much fun last year.

I can't think of any other 20k ocean race that would still be fun despite getting home in the early hours of the morning just a little bit tipsy ;) after a big, big night at a fellow breezers wedding.

I certainly won't be doing that this year though.

More sponsors to be announce soon as well as event specifics and official poster. This is more a competitor information update than a official release.

Full props to Mike and Cam at Stand Up Surf Shop for coming onboard for naming rights to sponsor what will be an International event. Stand Up Surf Shop have been a big supporter in SUPWA events since our inception, their commitment to the King of the Cut is significant and quite honestly... amazing!

great Aloha spirit.

If you get an opportunity.... support the guys that support your sport.

Looking forward to this.
Went into the event last year with this being my second ever ocean DWer, what was I thinking lol?
Was out of juice around the 10k mark & took myself into shore dodging a reef.
Awesome event, training harder/smarter this year (already 7 kilos lighter) & gaining much needed experience for a 'SWELL' time to ride & glide.

Here is a break down of the events leading up to the King of the Cut:

Thursday 27th of November - Final of the Stand Up Paddle Sports Sunset Series Downwinder held off the Perth metro coast. A 10km coastal race from Sand Tracks to City Beach - blasting along in the consistent Fremantle Seabreeze. Great prizes, mixed event for Surf Skis and SUPs.

Saturday 29th of November - The Doctor Race, also sponsored by Stand Up Paddle Sports/Starboard Australia and in it's 7th year. This is a international known event over 28km from Rottnest Island to Sorrento beach. It is a gruelling race for Surf skis, OC1s and SUPs.

Sunday 30th of November - The Fig 2 Fig, also sponsored by Stand Up Paddle Sports/Starboard Australia. This is the biggest community SUP event in WA. Last year over 70 paddlers attended the "paddle" from Sand Tracks to Swanbourne. It is a celebration of SUP, not a race, but a downwinder in it's purest form - sharing the stoke to new paddlers and celebrating the majesty of our oceans and our beautiful SUP community. 7km paddle with social function after. Fun event.

During the week - Monday 1st to 5th of December. Stand Up Surf Shop will be running a free shuttle service for Downwinders off the coast. Some groups will go down to Mandurah to do the Cut run in preparation for the big event.

Saturday 6th of December - The Stand Up Surf Shop- King of The Cut - Presented by Redink Homes. This is the fastest SUP Downwinder event in the country. 20kms of perfect, un-interrupted wind swells along the Peel coast on consistent wind speeds from 20-25knts. It has been rated one of the best run sin the world by some of the professionals and with $16,000 prize money, it is one of the richest SUP events in the Australia.

Sunday 7th of December - The Duel. The Duel is a Surf Ski and SUP race that involves two legs - An ocean leg and estuary leg. Both are the same length (10km) and the idea is who will win? Flatwater or Ocean. The Ocean leg is the first half of the King of the Cut run, so it is an opportunity to squeeze one more downwinder in!

If you love downwinding - Perth is the place to be for the first week of December.

Think the King of the cut is a few ks more now closer to 25 k can we confirm just going to have to put a few more squats into the training program if that's the case It's the best run on our coast so who's coming from the east ?

Hey DW
sorry to hear you can't make it. We will have billeting available - also Stand Up Surf Shop have boards for hire for the week - there's a few unlimited boards over here. Get in quick - speak to Cam or Galvo at Stand Up Surf Shop, the shop of choice for the King of the Cut - all your down winding needs!

Could be a finish change Stimo - TBC. A great opportunity to make the run even better.

Just heard that the Sunset series is offering $1000 for first SUP, with the Doctor offering $3000-$4000 and the King of the Cut offering $5000, someone could walk away with close to $10,000 for a weeks worth of paddling!.....now that's a fine job!

It's not all about the money and racing either. The Fig2Fig was one of the biggest SUP events in WA last year, with over 70 paddlers on the ocean - boards of every class, unlimited, 14', 12'6, 10', 9'6......the surf boards actually went pretty well. It was a great buzz, not a race but a paddle or a "bush walk" as DJ from Vic puts it. It's the day after the Doctor, great warm down paddle and party after.

Hey DWer if you can afford to go to Maui every year and go to Solomon Island etc, etc, surely you can afford a trip West.

The extra few k's to finish at Secret Harbour sounds great, I need all the distance I can to make up for my slow starts, bring it on!!!

G’day tightlines yes I’d love to come to WA and paddle in the King of the Cut the video’s I’ve seen of the place and the vibe look insane. I’ve already blown the budget out already, I ordered 6 new board from good friend Sam Egan to replace the boards I snapped in Samoa this year and have a couple of spares. I pick up my Jet-ski tomorrow it’s got all new fishing rod holders at the front and back I’ll be styling now when I go for a trawl. “all the gear with no idea” hahaha. Plus I finally pick up my new 8'8'' DEEP from Simon next week it's been sitting in the factory for like 18 months as they f###ed up the spray job so I've got to find money for that.
Maui is an eight grand gig for like 6 weeks Maui it’s an addiction I just love the place paddling Maliko all day and the people the place and the vibe, I have many friends on Maui, toilet paper is worth more now than the Aussie dollar so I have to watch every cent. I’m lucky the Solomon’s is a gig like I did on Namotu Island Fiji I’ve had Cloudbreak and Restaurants as good as you can get it, but’s it’s time for a change a new frontier “Yes Please Mr Wizard” I’ll be the surfing/lifeguard/boatman/fisherman in the Solomon’s can’t wait already. One day I will come to Wa to paddle in the King of the Cut on my SIC custom f16.
