The 2016 Wedge Island Shaka Longboard event (the first one ever) was a complete blast.
Everyone filled up on waves, good vibes and shaka spirit.
When I heard SUPWA were setting up a SUP longboard event (9'5s and over) I knew I had to be a part of this as I reckon Stand Up Paddle Surfing and longboarding have such a powerful overlap.
This is certainly one of the most enjoyable events I have ever covered.
To the SUPWA crew - you guys should be very proud of this event.
Fantastic vid Matt you captured the vibe perfectly.
So good to see so many new faces competing and ripping including yourself.
Awsome to see the juniors competing for the first time too, they must have been surfing for at least 8 hours solid on Saturday?
Huge shout out to all the people that helped out over the weekend and a bigger shout out to Joe Fry and the SUPWA crew for the hard work in getting this event off the ground.
Everybody wants to know when the next one is
Thanks SUPWA, I had a ball up at Wedge, well run great fun event.
I struggled in the small waves but had loads of fun all the same. I met some great people and enjoyed my first foray into competitive sup surfing. I now know I have a lot to learn.
Cheers Bender
The best thing about surf comps in WA is there is always plenty of room in the carpark
Thanks again Monica for the photo hope you don't mind me sharing it.
Well done guys, Great to see the comp longboard sup divisions getting some momentum around the country. We introduced a 10 foot plus sup division this year in our club and it has been one of our most participated divisions. I personally have enjoyed getting that sup buzz again from big gliding boards as my everyday board is 7.10...
