Makorori Point this afternoon.........only 5 people in the water and lots of waves so presumably the perpetrator was a "sup hater"
But maybe just a typical shortboarder who finds his board choice is the wrong choice for the point?
Anyway he immediately left the water and climbed the makorori hill track before I had a chance to "address various issues"

My next step to become a mature SUPer: be mentally prepared to stay cool and relax being dropped in

Oh dear. I had a back packer run straight over the top of my minion this morning and took me out. He didn't understand any english so i pointed at one of my better fin chop scars, showed him my stumpy finger and pointed to his hire board. He said one word, "sheeeeeet". He understood. After a handshake he paddled far far away. The next two hours were trouble free - for
me anyway.

Just his way of inviting you to join him on his next wave

I prefer overtaking them, but a short sharp shove in the back also does the trick.

Just yell out "Party Wave" and grin excitedly at them. They'll be so confused that they fall off. Works every time

I think that's a bit harsh mate, not everyone can afford to splash out $1500 bucks on the SUP survival kit that consists of a fibreglass raft, carbon paddle, flappy hat or aerodynamic helmet, boardies AND a wetsuit, booties, sea-shepherd sticker and an assortment of go-pro adapters.

Maybe he saw that you were only going the poo-man/busdriver all the way to the beach and thought that you wouldn't mind a party wave.

the ever so superior feelings of the shortboarders....so when its windy and I drop in on a surfer like you with my wavesail gear because you are hopelessly slow, think you throw some spray but its almost pathetic compared of what I can do with double (or tripple) your speed and make proper aerials that go decently high instead of that bunny hop where you might get your fins out of the water you don,t mind either? Its imo better to respect that someone is riding a wave with no matter how and with what toy and don,t hinder them.
No matter they are riding a shortboard, longboard, minimal, fish, sup, bodyboard, waveski, canoe or even an inflatable crocodile its just a matter of manners to have them having there moment instead of ****ing it up. If you wanna share the wave, fine but don,t hinder the first rider.Awesome conditions by the way Gizzie!

My response was tongue in cheek - glad you and your ego enjoyed it.

I agree with your sentiments on different craft though - people CHOOSE to ride different craft and that gives them no less or more of a right to waves than anybody else. Wait in line, take your turn and if you insist on paddling deeper up the point remember your spot in the queue.

As I has been a proned surfer for few decades I feel and agree with you so. But what you say is available for spots where you used to wait closed to each others surfers, nearly elbow to elbow or almost... When it's like a place where is lot of room down the point like this one in NZ with no crowd and only this guy shown down the line going to drop in as shown on the video , you can't apply this gent's rule, let the challenge to ride further out as harder as possible does.
This is why i say what i did.
So yes! take your turn, stay in line and keep in your position whatever your craft is but if you fail or fall off the wave you attempt to ride once is your turn, you ought to prone down the break in soup and paddle out around and back to queue. Remember paddling throughout the surf is a hassle for any others going down the point.
