Hi

We are flying Jetstar so it doesn't look like I can take my 10'6 SUP.

Looking for SUP hire suggestions and logistics advice please.

I read this post - www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Bali-SUP-Hire/ - but the post is too old to reply to, so I had to start a new one.

I am travelling with the family of 5 (3 boys aged 5,3,2) and we are staying next to Tanah Lot (north of Changu) and will be surfing locally to where we stay.

I normally surf a Coreban Rocket 10'6 (10'6" x 30" x 4.5") - had it out at Rotto/down south a few times and it seemed to go ok.

Questions:

What board should I try and rent?

Is it possible to get the board dropped off to the hotel or at the airport? I am going north/aware kitesurfbali (Jankie?) is in Sanur which is opposite side of travel? (www.bali-standuppaddle.org/)

Any other suggestions on where to rent?

What should I take? I read leash (x2!) I'll likely take my own paddle (I have a solid coreban paddle ?)

I was thinking of getting a Garth helmet for the trip (wife really)? Is it a good idea?

Thanks!

Hi GranG
Email Jankie jankie@bali-kitesurfing.org He will sort you out with a good JL board $150AUD a week rental, not worth taking one.
Most A/lines only take up to 9'.

Changuu can get pretty heavy, last time I surfed there at the rivermouth (april this year) it was pretty heavy at about double overhead, took me a good half an hour just to get out. There is a better SUP wave down towards the temple where most of the long boarders hangout, but if you're wanting perfect SUP waves then stick to surfing at Sanur.

... oh and just reading your request for some suggestions here are a few for the bigger waves ... practice holding your breath, wear a life jacket or floatation device, put two leg ropes on! or one of the really extra heavy ones u get in Hawaii, never take the first waves in the set i prefer number 7 or 8, if surfing Uluwatu pull out before Racetracks too much traffic and paddle out twice as far as you think, Bali has a habbit of smashing u, i took a Gath not a bad idea a friend of mine got scalped at Desert Point coupla months ago and i saw one bloke at Uluwatu in June while i was there, make sure u wear booties those reefs are like razors ...

Just contact Jankie and do day trips to sanur when the surf is on there. Perfect SUP waves on his door step.

Thanks for all the advice.

Will go and get two spare leashes + my existing one.

Have emailed Jankie on logistics + recommended board options. - hopefully there is a good solution/cost.

Quite keen to try another board. the Coreban is ready for replacement... and what I pay the Chiropractor from carrying the heavy board through the sand dunes at my house means I could have almost bought another board already!

No way I'll be allowed to travel to Sanur with the current ridiculous traffic - that is like a full day trip - away from the family (been working long days - need to do daddy duty when the wind comes up!)

Can handle most conditions, but yeah - for this holiday - even if I was there - wont be doing uluwatu racetracks!!! Want fun surf.

Lost my booties - will have to buy new ones. Thanks for the reminder.
