Hi folks was just wondering if anybody has any experience with travelling in Indo with a SUP. Have a boat trip in Sumba booked, which is a flight to Denpasar then an internal flight with Lion Air. Would like to take the SUP but the max length limit for boards on their website is 6'6", have emailed the airline a couple of times but no reply. Has anyone done this trip or travelled with Lion Air and know how strictly this is adhered too? Cheers.
Hi 32
i tried to fly from Bali to Lombok last year with a 9'0 longboard. Ended up having to get the ferry over, Lion air small planes have a limit on boards (they told me only 6'0). Very frustrating as I'd booked online through a 3rd party company and nowhere did it mention it this. Its probably the same to Sumba.
perhaps ask the company you booked the boat trip with?

Hi 32, We asked Lion Air before our boat trip last month. Lion Air's response was......
Thank you for contacting Customer Portal via Email :) Surfboard length size:
a. Jet Type Aircraft (JT/ID) Max. 230 cm (THIS IS 7'6").
b. Propeller type aircraft (IW) Max. 200 cm Warmest Regards, Nessa ?Lion Air Group Support Team
The largest board bag in our crew was 7'6". However, three board bags (out of ten) arrived the following day due to insufficient space on the propeller aircraft from Denpasar to Sumba. Anything larger than 7'6" will be a tight fit in the aircraft hold.
Which boat are you booked on ? If it's the Bulan-Baru, I recommend asking the owner Bill for advice on getting your SUPs to Sumba. There might be another option available.
