Some people may be aware I am attempting the circumnavigation of Sydney,
on 2nd March in support of Tangaroa blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI).
www.tangaroablue.org/However not all are aware of what Tangaroa Blue does. I had the privilege of meeting Heidi the co-founder and in my own words this is Tangaroa Blue.
We all see debris about our beaches and waterways. Some organise clean ups or pick up a piece or two on there way. Tangaroa Blue takes it a step further. They gather data about an area over a period of time and it is entered in the data base at AMDI. This is then used to study an area and see trends and used as evidence. Something that is needed to change minds and policies.
Heidi suggested that instead of doing a light sweep of a large area that can be daunting to look after we choose a small achievable area and clean it throughly. Thus getting good data and a sustainable practise.
MY SUGGESTION TO CLUBS, BUSINESSES and so inclined FAMILIES and INDIVIDUALS.
Pick a small area close to you and your heart that you want to clean up on a regular basis and it may be twice a year and contact Tangaroa Blue to be part of the AMDI.
