I was wondering what JB said about having a race division that's 12' and less and 12' and above.
I thought that's a bit rough for JL and their 12'6" Distance board.
I've just noticed that Naish are sponsoring the upcoming Maliko to Kahului Race on the 13th and have decided on a 13' and less and 13' and more division.
I found this great vid on last years event..It's a bit long at 15 minutes but well worth watching...imo..
I love the way they start flat out and near the end they are showing serious hurting..
I love the bit just before mid way in the vid where the guy in the light blue is chasing the bikini girl in yellow..
There's some good stand up footage just after the half way mark and towards the end.
There's also some good bits showing the glide that they get on these ocean swells..
I can't wait to get myself a race board like these....and I wonder how the new Naish race board will go in this event..

Its going to be interesting to see how both the JL an the Naish ride side by side. I like to JL but don't have much in the way of spare monopoly at the moment. Maybe later in the year. The JL may end up being slightly quicker if its 6 inches longer but I guess naish have had another 6 months to develop theres. JB has not reveiled too much, did he get his wings clipped?
Naish have really aimed their first distance board "The GLIDE" at the general punter. It is significantly faster than normal surf SUP's, but I am sure there is going to be some faster custom boards on the market. Naish are going to make a super fast SUP in the 12' class, but are waiting for the rules to be finalized. The super fast SUP's are quite hard to ride, especially in the open ocean. A punter will even find that the slick outline and rocker of the GLIDE can catch you out sometimes. On Maui they have found that the GLIDE keeps up (or is faster) with most of the race SUP's even the ones that are over 12'. But it is a lot easier to ride. Remember SUP is fun!
I guess will be in the pudding! the first GLIDE's will be here around end AUGUST early SEPTEMBER.

JB
Nice JB, i think the Glide will generate a lot of interest........it's a sweet looking board.
When are you in Adelaide JB ?
There seems to be lots of flat water SUP events coming up.
I just noticed this one...Jam the Dam.. ..We need more things like this down under.
