Hi All,
Heading up to Townsville/Magnetic Island for a week of R and R and just wondering where there a good places to SUP.
Also is the rogue croc still around coz we are taking the inflatable!
Thanks
the 4.6m croc was captured in February at the strand out the front of Tobruk pool which is where most of the people put in to go for a sup (you can go and see him at the feeding shows at billabong sanctuary, he has just started being available to see a few weeks ago and by all reports puts on quite a show, if thats your thing). 3m Croc was captured just last week at Saunders beach also. there is always the risk of having another hanging around i guess but its just something we get used to having them around, some people are put off by them, some like me are not. Any of the bays on Maggie should be fine early morning if you want calm water, horseshoe bay is well protected and is plenty big enough to go for a cruise. Along the strand is nice early in the day at the moment, afternoon she can pick up and you may be able to sneak in a DW from pallarenda to tobruk (NE) or the other way if its blowing SE. Can get little beginner swell at Saunders if all the stars align for an average surf, still fun though.
I sup along Ross River too. Several places you can get in . Have found a spot under Nathan Street bridge where you right on waters edge.

am sure a sighting of any size croc would greatly improve your paddling speed
I avoid the ross river....waaaay to much weed for me and theres no bumps to catch
There are bumps to catch......................but they bite!!
Where to paddle??? Not in any water greater than 2" deep that you can't see the bottom of. Rules to live by anywhere north of Maryborough. Kept me alive Barra fishing in the NT for years to make sure you avoid meeting any saltwater toothy handbags!! Freshies are alright, they just hiss at you but never trust a salty!
I'll be on Magnetic Island this weekend and would love to have a surf if there's somewhere I can hire a board? I'm new to SUP so a big stable board and a beginner wave would suit. Any advice?!
