From the little I know, yes the ball got rolling at last years Nationals.

I think SA realised the need to include SUPs and rather than trying to run a SUP event as a surfer they would get a sub committee together made up of SUPpers from around the country to give a balanced opinion and point of view.

Lacey if you saw it on FB you would have also noticed it lists the members as:
Queensland - Troy Pease (Chairman)
Western Australia - Greg Kerr (Secretary)
NSW - Andrew Cassidy
Victoria - Paul Harrington
South Australia - Mark Temple
Surfing Australia - Jim Hughes

don't worry they are working on it. the problem is one voice per state, not two

This is who we are:

Queensland - Troy Pease (Chairman)
Western Australia - Greg Kerr (Secretary)
NSW - Andrew Cassidy
Victoria - Paul Harrington
South Australia - Mark Temple
Surfing Australia - Jim Hughes

This is what we are about:

AuSUP - Australian United Stand Up Paddling is recognised by Surfing Australia as the National advisory body for SUP. It is made up of State representatives from the Surfing Australia affiliated clubs/associations.
Description
AuSUP is bound by a MOU between the 5 States (with scope to include Tasmania, ACT & NT)
Goals and objectives of AuSUP advisory Board

Goals:
1.To act on behalf of our key stake holders – State SUP Club/Associations members
2.To develop and nurture all disciplines of SUP in Australia, ensuring successful events and participation.
3.To respect and uphold the unique SUP community lifestyle and values – friendly, inclusive and transparent.

Objectives:
1.To communicate directly with Surfing Australia to advise and assist in running SUP events and provide feedback from key stakeholders.
2.To represent Stand Up Paddle board riders in Australia in order to deal with other National/International organisations for development of Stand Up Paddle boarding and SUP competitions
3.To assist in supporting SUP athletes onto pathways to International representation.

We did not form this committee to re-invent the wheel nor re-write the surf bible. We are simply here to provide guidance and support to Surfing Australia and respective Sate Governing Bodies and be the voice representative of SUP enthusiasts alike.

Congrats Peasey. I am sure with you guys advising a pro act like surfing Australia the only way is up.

It's a great step by SA to recognize the growth of the sport and that while some of its like surfing lots of parts aren't.

All the best mate.

I can't talk for every states as I don't know some of the names, but for QLD , NSW and Victoria it is a really great choice of people that have been already working hard for SUP in general.

The wa choice is also the perfect one. Greg is the driving force behind supwa which has really taken off here in wa.

Mark Temple from SA was one of the first to contact me about SUP back in January 2008. He has been an active driver and promoter of the sport in SA since then. Looks like a solid representation overall.
