Has anyone had a burst inflatable SUP board successfully repaired? My SUP board recently (03/2016) burst resulting in a split in the side seam about 200 mm long so I need to determine whether to it is worth spending money on a repair.
I bought the board new 01/2015 but I would not have used it more than a total of 15 hours since then (in calm water only) so, prior to the burst seam, it was still in very good condition (when not in use it has been stored in its bag indoors). Prior to bursting it was inflated to only 12.5 psi (according to the gauge that came with it) and the ambient temperature was 28 deg. I was in the process of transferring it from the beach to shade at my accommodation and it had been out of the water for less than 1/2 hr.
The board is a JP Australia "AllroundAIR", 10'2" X 32" X 6" - I don't know whether the construction is different to other inflatable boards but I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had experience with repairs to burst inflatables irrespective of brand.
Sounds like a warranty issue, why don't you contact the shop where you got it from.
here's a link before you contact the shop

Do a google search "fit for purpose warranty "and the state you live".

Depends on how bad it has blown the seam, most can be fixed and i have done quite a few and all are still holding together. Not sure of to many places where company's will fix it but you could try some inflatable boat makers as they will usally be able to do it if on the goldy then bring it in to me and i can take a look.
Jacko
At least you weren't in the water when it let go - if you were eg. a mile offshore or doing a downwinder or similar it could have been pretty awkward, and you'd have little chance of having any board to repair now.
It hadn't occurred to me that an inflatable might burst while in water (except maybe punctured by a sharp object) - have some riders experienced inflatables bursting while in the water?
Very rare to go on water.
Its usually boards taken to a good pressure (beyond what you really need in them) combined with direct sunlight on the rails at which point the glue loses its strength and you get a blow out.
For people with a bit of common sense they are durable, rarely have a problem and if they do they take it to a rib repairer and happy days.
For your every day punter, they destroy these things and its the end of the world. Unless they get a repalcement every week they blow one up.
Unfortuantely these people (Usually your know it all yuppy type) are driving up the costs of quality gear and driving down the quality of **** gear.
It would be pretty hard for an inflatable to blow a seam while on the water due to radiant heat alone. You are talking about melting the adhesive, which is going to need pretty extreme temperature, and any amount of water splashing on the surface will moderate that heat.
If you are in Victoria, I can recommend an RIB repairer.
PTWoody - thank you for your offer to recommend a repairer in Vic. but I can't take advantage of it as I am in S.E. Q'ld.
matt18 - thank you for your suggestion of going back to supplier - I called them, described what happened, and without asking them to do so, they offered to refer the matter to JP Australia

Excellent
It pays to go with a good company
Because it has been more than one year since I purchased it I assumed that neither supplier nor manufacturer would show any interest in a warranty claim but I am pleased to learn otherwise.
Since 03/2016 (my last post) JP Australia has replaced my burst JP Australia "AllroundAIR", 10'2" X 32" X 6", with a new one therefore I must commend them for doing so. Likewise I must also commend Kitepower Australia, the supplier, who arranged the replacement. Despite the replacement taking two months I am a satisfied customer. The replacement is noticeably stiffer than the previous one so I am enjoying riding it even more than the previous one. Thank you to all concerned.
