OK, happened at 2/30, apparently he either hit his head on rocks or copped his board in the head.

Just happened to be a doctor in the water and a group of guys out there commenced CPR out there, then they got him to shore but the efforts couldn't revive him.

Yeah, tragic especially if his wife was on holiday with him.Perhaps he lived local?

Another guy died the same way in 2012, in his case no body noticed until his board had drifted down the line, and people on shore realised someone was still attached.By the time they got to him he was bloated up, no way back.In his case he was vastly experienced, quite fit and had surfed there thousands of times. So it was a major shock.

Has there been any word on where the guy was from?

Too soon I guess, family will need to be notified first, tragic, regardless of who he is.

Well it was a visitor who was camped right beside the carpark, so I found out.He was with a group so the people who know groups staying there should contact them.

I think my lot are safe, they had a house, and 50 is a bit young for most our mob.

Seriously terrible news. So sad for the man his family and those who assisted to save him
I do really feel for his family and those who assured. Having been there to many times in the assit role with bad outcomes my thoughts and heartfelt best wishes goes to those involved. Condoleses and blessing to those people. RIP

...very sad.

Another valid reason for a Gath helmet huh ?

I'm mystified why I get so many weird looks for wearing mine.

There was another story circulating today that it was a heart attack and the guy had a pacemaker installed???Media reports yesterday said it was a blow to his head that knocked him out and then he drowned???

It's tough when a bloke goes surfing and doesn't go home to his family. Way too young at 50. Rip.

I don't mean this to sound heartless or like I'm trying to be hardcore, but there's so many other ways I'd rather not go than this.
Driving to work.
Or home.
Sitting at my desk at work.
In my sleep.
On a trip overseas without my family.
A myriad of ways.

After a close call a few years ago, every time I go for a surf now I kiss my sleeping boys and Lise goodbye and hope I see them in a few hours.
The ocean is my church and my solace. I need it. It keeps me going in the daily grind. It makes me a better father and husband.
There's nowhere else I'd rather not come back from.

My deepest condolences to this guys family, I hope he went quickly and peacefully.

The only injury I have ever had that still sits in the back off mind.

Broken back and heaps of destruction..... But to be funked up in the ocean by myself was a feeling I can't quite describe. Not so much for the past, but it still sits with me every surf I have.

Plus I wear a helmet all the time when I skate, never used to but with a already damaged noggin I must....

I apologise for the hijack

This happened to me in Byron earlier this year - total accident (learner surfer) and it cracked straight into the side of my helmet (temple area).

Had I not had it on - who knows but it was split second stuff that could of changed many lives.
