Hi,
Have got back into surfing after a bit of time away from it and would like to get into hp longboarding, if anyone could give me some feedback on things to work on please :-)
Many thanks, Ben

Looks like your surfing fine to me & your wave is suited to longboarding judging by that particular day.

All depends what you want to do. Try & surf a longboard like a shortboard like your doing & that works well with a HP longboard. Maybe try other stuff like cross stepping, stalling to set the tail up under the little breaking lip to hold you while you make your way onto the nose. So much harder than some people make it look. That's what I aim to work on once I get a nose rider. But HP longboards are great for when waves get over chest high. My thing at the moment is doing floaters while switchfooting...There's actually so much you can do on a longboard, a lot happens that goes unnoticed. But with the right waves like what you've got there, I'll bet you'll have a lot of fun...cheers .....Here's some footage I got with my soloshot last year

Thanks Mick, great video :-) I guess I would like to do more carving manoeuvres as my board is only 8 foot so not ideally suited to nose riding (and perhaps not strictly a longboard).
On a different note your barrel riding looked really smooth

The switching foot floater sounds good, do you normally do it frontside or backside? Cheers

Thick wetty with a good neck seal, booties, gloves, a white chalk cliff in the background devoid of anything other than low grass!

You're not from these parts parts are you?

Your surfiing is fine, it's a short board style that will develope on its own to suit a longboard, you'll just have to move your feet a lot more as it develops, and that probably won't happen until the water is warmmer and you can ditch the booties.

I stand natural when I surf, but used to do a lot of skating from 11 to 24 & used to stand goofy. Started just switchfooting on a shortboard at the end of a wave from time to time. Then switchfoot pretty much every wave on a 666 last summer through winter & started doing it a lot on my longboard.

I start natural stance on popup, switch to goofy & would switch back to natural as I hit the whitewater. Should add my local has pretty soft fat whitewater sections. But I'm now working on staying switchfoot for the floater & pulling most off in the small summer conditions. It feels harder once it gets over waist high on the section I'm hitting. I found cutting back a lot harder also, but I'm slowly getting used to it

Hi Mr. Rocket.

I went from shortboards, to a hp longboard a fair while back. The transition takes a little bit of time, but persevere as it is worth it. Just remember to get on the tail for your turns and get forward into the trim section of the board, you will have a blast.
Wont be long and you will be like the rest of us, you will have a 10 foot log, a 9'6" nose rider, a 9'4" allrounder and a 9'1" high performance longboard. Welcome to the Dark Side!!!

Now there's a coincidence, only a week or so back I found a site that documented the history of surfing on the Isle of Wight and I was so fascinated by how inventive they all were in trying to get boards and find waves, I almost posted the link.

that will give me an excuse to do it now.
