Hi, picked up a new Mal from local shaper and noticed that a lot if fibreglass cloth can be seen through the resin, is this normal??, I've had several boards shaped and never seen this before??

Is the cloth showing through the surface or is the weave just visible in the resin?

If he's used volan it shows as up as being very visible with a silver flick to it, it can look as though it's really close to the surface because it's a really coarse weave.

It's not on the surface I can just see it through the resin, it's not everywhere though just a bit patchy here and there mainly on the deck. Board is polished and finished very nicely just I havnt seen the cloth weave before in a finished board?

Me thinks it's not enough resin and he didn't notice it while spreading it out

Nothing to worry about as long as its water tight. You can see the weave through lots of boards - especially where colour or tints has been used. Lots of people highlight the weave as a design aspect - check out Mac's sons board a while back.

could be bad glass in the fact that is has a shine to it... iv seem some rolls of volan glass that no matter what they will have this shine on it where the weaves are. other thing it could be is maybe the sander went a little too far before final gloss coat and it wasnt cleaned or had filler put back over it and now stands out. Post a pic up will be interesting to see

Cloth doesnt come through to surface, it seems quite deep, deck is finished very smooth...

yes so nothing to worry about. Its easy to sand through a bit more than you wish. Also it might have been purposely done to flatten it out. As long as its water tight nothing to worry about what so ever.
