Had a board damaged that was freighted from the Gold Coast. Thought this time I would be smart and purchase the Damage Insurance. So purchased it only the receive the board with some damage to the tail. Lodge a claim with e-go for them to tell me it can take upto 28 days to process a claim
29 days later I follow up and they don't have any of my details on record. So I resubmit everything again to wait another month to receive this email today.
Good morning Dave I have had conformation from E-GO as per below; For a damage claim to be approved, the item must be deemed as having been packaged suitably for transportation to avoid damage. This item looks to have simply been shipped in a surfboard bag. This is insufficient. Please see below the consignment in question and also an example of how other senders ship surfboards to avoid damage. With damage being the primary contributing factor to the damage sustained, I must decline the insurance claim.
I am fuming at this point (today) and they were kind enough to give me an example of what they think is suitable packaging.
As a lot of you buys and sell boards and get posted interstate I thought I would share this with you as a warning.
I had a board shipped with them and they damaged it. Put a nice sized dent in the bottom of a pristine board. Cost me $90 to have it professionally fixed. Couldn't be stuffed with trying to claim as it looked like too much a hassle to do so.
First and last time I ever used a non surfboard specific courier.
Sorry to hear they got you too.
Thanks Dave... Will make sure I don't use and advise others not too...
I would direct them to this thread and also shame them on Facebook and Instagram as well...
Sell insurance then basically make impossible to claim = dodgy cu$ts
I've heard E-go are a dud by several people.
I just shipped, by road freight, to SA and it arrived AOK..
Board was in a board bag (daybag) with foam top/tail with some bubble wrap inside..then all placed in a coffin bag and wrapped with FRAGILE tape all around the coffin..
Arrived OK.
I've shipped heaps with The Kayak Courier.
If it's not wrapped to his satisfaction, he puts it in one of his own covers.
Door to door, no damage ever.
And Richard is a top bloke
Thanks Nozza, have heard good things about him.
Problem em with most of those guys is they don't come to SA so you are left using the big boys
Recommend the hell out of Chris at The Surfboard Courier - he communicates direct with the seller to arrange pick ups, uses own board bags so no packing by them required and is very competitive on price. No association but i've used a few others who were OK but Chris offers a better service and simpler solution for both buyers and sellers. Not a mark on any boards i've had chris deliver to me, he does door to door...
also agree richard at the kayak courier is pretty good just found chris a bit more flexible and better at other end (ie for sellers). and sorry mchenry chris only does east coast but does full noosa to melbourne...
McHenry set up a new venture mate, hire a big van and driver and off you go a little side income
I've used Board Runs and Surf Freight both amazing service and great guys.
