ok, im going to spring for a McT. Fireball Evo 2 with a pin tail. As im 100kgs and heavy footed i want a heavier glass job than the 6+6 deck and 6 on the bottom. I have a newish ECS longboard that is just peppered with heel marks and a beautiful Mark Rabbidge team board thats the same.
So the guys at McT said they would do a 8+6 deck and 8 bottom. So at 100kgs will this combo still dent up much?
im going the 9'6" Evo 2 in a pin tail. 23" wide and 3 1/8 thick. Im only average/intermediate at best and have a couple short boards 7'2" Surftech Spade that i glassed a patch on and a custom 7'4" mini gun.
i snapped 4 longboards this year as i love big surf, thats why i have the shorter boards now so a Tav should be safe.
any thoughts?
I like the pain job on the Fireball Evo II - 22941

I like the solid stuff too and a 9'6" I am presently getting shaped will have a 3x6oz deck and a 2x6 bottom. That won't cave in. 93kg. Having said that, my 2x6 decks haven't really got any damage, but they have a gloss.
The new 9'6" also is getting a rail lap to make snapping that much harder. Something to think about if you reckon you won't be able to resist taking the fireball in the solid stuff. Me? I certainly would be.
Will 18oz on the deck and 12oz on the bottom make it too heavy? Esspecially a 9'6"? Would be over 10kgs? not that i care about weight. I recently fixed a 9'2" that i snapped and added 1.5kgs to it and i love it now. It weighs 10kgs and its great. Never understood why some longboard riders get hung up on weight. Its a longboard....enjoy the glide. Lol

Nah it'll be fine. It's a 9'6". I won't be throwing airs and fin free wafts. I'll be wanting to glide in early, drop and run for the shoulder, with the occasional cuttie thrown in. My biggest problem will be having to make the call to go a smidgeon earlier to get that puppy up to launch speed.
At your weight I'd be looking at a 10 footer especially if you already have a few 9 footers. You'll catch more waves and you'll still be able to turn it no worries. Just a thought. Noticed the Rabbidge in your avatar pic. I've had a few longboards off him and they've always been good.

Thanks bro, yeah i bought it of some goose who could not ride and had no idea what it was. Grabbed it for $350. I rang Mark to ask about the rail stringers he put on the bottom only. He laughed and said he made that board for Ray Lawrence (one if his pro team riders) who is a big unit it like me and needed the extra strength. Also commented on the great deal i got.
steve
Steve here's an evo 2 I ordered a long time back. 9'4 . Work of art . Never got to ride it due to an injury . Just went with the small sticker. Didn't want the big M on it.
I wonder how many boards they punch out a week? they would not all be hand shaped, i would say the blanks would be done on a CNC machine then hand finished? Does Bob sign every board?

Bob will hand shape you a board without the use of a CNC machine but that will cost you big time, there is noway Bob could keep up with production, each board is signed, shaped by mctavish which usually means it was finished by Ben McTavish Bobs son who is an outstanding shaper in his own right.
Get them to make the laps bigger...most of a boards strength is in the rail laps...you should also be able to get a higher density foam blank which will help with the heel dents and **** like that

Yeah I was not bagging them at all or starting a ****e fight. Obviously all the boards are not hand shaped. The ultimate goal is to create a great board and thats what they do.

Good call bro. Feels strange to go into all this detail over the internet and just hope they do what I request, lets face it, you would never really know if a board builder used 8+6x8 and wider laps.
Anyway the Evo 2 appears to be a much loved design that works well, I just hope the glass layup is strong enough to resist heel dents.

Good question,
Newcastle is a pretty tight liitle surfing community. I spoke with Jye and Mick and they sounded good. then I talked to another (mate) who shapes and he said dont go with Byrnes they are too expensive for what you get. I then talked with Peter Sheely who also could do anything I wanted, and the people from other places say, na he is old school whith old school, outdated designs. Then another mate says he will do whatever I want for $450 but no bling, ie no gloss and no paint. In the end I just gave up on local and started looking further afield.
At my age and lack of experience on a longboard I could be accused of being a cashed up kook. Truth is if im spending $1500 + I want a nice looking, great surfing board.
Steve
Yeah was just wondering, everyone has opinions and mine wouldn't agree with your mate.
Don't forget business is tight and they will chop each other to get a sale...
Here is another Newy option www.pieter.com.au/
I have his "The Mal" HP shape. Completely hand shaped awesome board.
Some say the best Lbs in town Stu...
And he's quick too
Yeah,
I assume you watched the little clip from his website.
Knocks it out very quick.
