anyway, ive got my mojo back and have a few boards but feel the need to spring for a real gem. I dont real want to spend the coin on a Mac T but i noticed Goddard boards feature on this site a bit. So are they any good?

Yes ! RG makes absolutely lovely boards. You can not go wrong having one of those shapes under your arm.

What I've seen is absolute perfection,the shapes,the quality is mind blowing,Ron is a mighty fine surfer and knows his trade oh so well.

I have a 10' silk pin and love it, very agile and forgiving, RG's workmanship and quality is faultless in the two I've owned.
As mac has noted Ron's a top bloke who knows his stuff and great to deal with.

I sent him an e-mail last night with some details and asked about the cost of a Silkpin.

I've had this 8' now going on 5 1/2 years and will never part with it.

I just told Ronnie the waves I surf and dims and finish and left it up to him..
I'm not sure if he was doing many 8' late 2010 but he's done a lot since...including his best M8 model.
Quad works great for me. 
From memory I think he roughly works on $120/ft but best off talking to him.
Absolutely no plans on parting with mine either!!

but alas Olsteve (and you probably are not even aware of it)..... it is guy's like you that frustrate the crap out of me and that's why I am driving a school bus.....not having a shot at you personally..but put yourself in my shoes, you are not being totally fair here and are what I call a tire kicker hence the frustration. Here is the way a tire kicker will frustrate you if you are a shaper...and here is how not to enquire about a custom made surfboard.

While I agree with you in some aspect Ron - I must say nothing frustrates me more than shapers having great websites speeling on about their product and then no mention of prices at all....

Now I understand the sales aspect of having the prices somewhat secret so the customer is forced to contact you, this gives you the chance to build repor and hopefully a sale.
But in my view a very large majority of the tyre kickers just want to know the price of the board. Simple solution would be to put your price list up on your website. Heck even have basic prices and add on's set out.
I don't understand the whole big secret to pricing of boards.

Yeah sorry for the initial lack of details Ron. At the time i messaged you i liked what i saw on your web site and was just enquiring as to ball park money. I had quotes around Newy for custom boards (real custom hand made like your boards) from $100 a foot to $450 for a wet sanded no colour board. I understand that McT is a big operation and they punch out the boards so they can set prices accordingly.
When i get closer to making a decision i will contact you privatly and nail down some/all details for you to work with. Money is not really the issue, just that i am not that experienced with longboard design it is easier to pick something off the rack like at McT that obviously work well and are respected boards.
anyway sorry if i insulted you in anyway, that was not my intention.

Just read this.... and that sums up my situation exactly. Truth is, we were going to Byron for my wifes 50th so i got all wet about being near McT. Then we decided it was a bit far to drive for 2 nights, so we decided we should look a bit closer and while the mrs was googling places at Coffs i googled surfboard shapers at coffs and Goddards came up so i emailed you as there was no prices on your site. All of this happened in about 10mins. Regardless we are going to Port Mac now but i am still keen to get a board. I now understand that i need to spend $1500 or $1600 on a plank And thats cool.
Thing is i did not know you or your boards from a bar of soap and just wanted some feedback from this forum. I know lots of flash surfboard shapers web sites who make crap boards. sites like this are great for sorting out the good boards from the crap.

I would be adjusting my web site forever...
and price is no secret.. I just plasterd it on a public forum for everyone to see...
and the not showing price to get the customer in... is way off the mark...I build total custom made surfboards...no stock items at all...how can I do that without talking to your head...you have to come to me...my website is the ONLY way I can get to you...ask anyone who buys my boards...at times I can be hard to track down...if you want one you will have to ring or email me...I'm not trying to lure you in with secret pricing...on the contrary if price is your main concern you are chasing the wrong guy, I have always tried to stay middle of the road...you will find cheaper and you will find dearer...it's just that now days china means you will find more at cheaper...so Ron drives school bus and doesn't give a rats ....no big deal leashless

no drama's at all Steve you have not insulted me at all...you are just the poor whipping post at the hands of a grumpy old man.. .let me say there is no problem being a tire kicker....I am forever telling pushy sales people who pounce on you...."don't need any help mate I'm just kicking tyres" 
so you shop around and you find things you like and at some point you have to take the leap of faith and hope that you have chosen correctly that's why I ended my post with ïf you never ever go...you will never ever know...gotta go pick up the school kids.

People like Ron will continue to sell boards coz they are works of art, he makes bloody good boards
I can understand the annoyance with China popouts & I'm guilty of buying them for less serious surf & fat waves like my local. But then I also buy the top dollar quality boards for better waves too. Thing is though if you wanna do some fine tuning you can't beat a custom. I'm at that stage now looking at diff designs & having a little more understanding of board design. I mean my head was still stuck in the 90's until about 7 years ago. I just surfed boards my height or 8 to 10 inches taller if it was over double without much regard other than who it was shaped by. There are so many board shapes around now it has been interesting trying them out & I have my thoughts on how some could be tweaked. Need people like Ron when you wanna do that, so there will always be work for them. But yeah can understand the frustration of the influx of boards from China, Thailand & Indo. Some well respected shapers have taken their operations over seas to remain competitive.
It's not like it's the only industry it's happened to. I'm an engineer and work is getting outsourced to India coz it's cheaper. But so is the quality same as surfboards made in China.
Have only bought 1 board made in overseas sweat shop to date and don't think I'll buy any more. And it's a FireWire so wasn't cheap
