Simondo - how is the Tracker going? What size waves do you ride it up to? Is it a bit heavier than a normal board of that size and if so does it go ok when the wind is up?
I have 6 beers that this will turn sharply into an unbridled , unfettered , shameful , blatant , whore-ridden , harlot-laden , slag-filled , Byron born , unrepentant & glaring McT pimp fest
didn't kitegirl get a tracker
wonder how her board is going.
kitegirl could you please send photos of your board.. supported by you in your bikini .
thank you
How's the Tracker Going? - UNREAL banana peel!
What size do I ride it up to? - I've had her out at Double Overhead, and heaps of days at Head High, and 1.5 over... I was impressed with it at Double Over! Went better than I thought it might.
Is it a bit heavier than a normal board of that size? - not really (maybe only 700 grams extra)... It has a big stringer, but the timber is light weight. It seems to be Volane glassing, but Bill at McTavish is a "Wizz" Glasser (pardon the puns, towrds their fin builder! - The Wizz!)... Glassed to last, but not too heavy. I think it is about 6.5kg, about the same as a HP 9'1...
How does it go in windier conditions? - well yes, it's a perfect weight to push through the wind!
How does it go in waist high conditions? - unreal... The long walls we get down here, lock it into the pocket down the end section and Winki, and just race it until it closes out! Super fun board for racing through that last FAST part of the wave!
Thanks for that run down Simondo. I have been thing about getting a second hand one for the bigger days and maybe I could use it as my Bali gun. Presently in have a 6'6" as my big board. On Friday arvo it just did not cut the mustid and it dawned on me that I need to really get myself a more suitable board sooner rather than later. It was big n chunky with loads of water moving, back wash and lots of offshore. My 6'6" was terrible. I hardly made a wave or a drop - just got bounced off. The thought of the Tracker did enter my mind as I surfed in Saturday arvo with the owner of one. I do not yet have enough faith in in my own creations when waves of consequence are passing through and I have another Indo adventure round the corner. The other board I really like the look of is a Maurice Cole Protow. Completely diff boards. But I have always liked the look of them as well.
Geez Ted .... how much did these two McT floozies pay ya to start this thread

There are a couple on special at the Mctavish store...I reckon back yourself in and make one bro...I am super happy with the single fin flyer I made...get in there bro!!
I would like to know grom man wouldn't you prefer your g2 more.for bigger days? Can you turn the tracker or is it more a point and go board? In bigger surf do you have to nurse the bottom turn,or does the early paddle in and the big single suffice...how does it compare to the g2? Have side bites crossed your mind? Why or why not.
Chrispy, my big G2 is snapped!
My 8'6 G2 is an epic Fun Gun, and yes, it is probably preferable to the Tracker. The 8'6 G2 is more responsive, has the hard rails, and 1+2 set up... But there's a "pure" feel to the Tracker...
Also, I would usually grab my 9'0 Speed Shape as my Gun. But the 8'6 Tracker handles the juice pretty well!
Sometimes it's just a case of whether you Thai or Vietnamese for dinner... Similar but different...

It's like Burbon and Coke, v's Canadian Club and Cola!
Coopers Ale v's Coopers Sparkling...
Stella v's Heinekken
NZ Sav Blac v Margaret River Sav Blanc ....

you can not compare those things Simondo - like chalk n cheese.
If you where in Byron Ted you'd do well to walk around the corner to Michael Cundith's and run your hands over an "Islander" model.
The nice deep single concave (not as deep as a Pro tow) teamed with a 5 plug option would be worthy of consideration for the waves you're talking about for a board that does more than point and shoot.
The name "Islander" is appropriate and the boards have proven Indo performance.
Or just bite the bullet and get a Jim Banks custom gun....if your going to Indo he's the man to speak too about guns
Thanks Chaps - I do like MC's boards. Not really looking to spend a fortune on this one - hoping to find a decent second hand one - have a bit of time up my sleeve. Alternatively I might just have to bite the bullet and make one. Had a look at a few outlines in Manly on Monday night to get me thinking. A few options out there. I think I probably can put one together. Lets see what pops up over the next few weeks.
