Keep up the good work. I love build threads
+1 Please keep us posted!!!!
I like those dimensions Beerman, not because I am a fat bastard but because
I am an old bastard.
Look forward to seeing the finished product and to hear how she performs.
Thanks
ET.
I'm an old bastard too.
I just realised that I posted the wrong width. It's 25" wide.
A blind old bastard.

Hmm.. blind old fat bastards ..with long arms
That is one big board. Nice shape and plenty of volumn though and thats what I like in a mal, easy paddling. Nice shaping job and it should look the part when it's finished.

Yes at that width you would either need super long arms to hold the thing or install a 666 type hand holder
Now is this a new possibility with a board of those dimensions...a concave in the center of the deck to A) reduce foam/weight and B)better accomodate OFB (with long arms) making it more comfortable to paddle..just a thought
Seriously looking foreward to seeing the finished board..esp the concave/chine.
A mate does something similar..really loose.
Stared the rails today. Needs a fair bit of meat taken off. A 10' mal has long rails.
Made my version of a Fred tool to regulate the cutting but it was far too slow, so back to the surform.
This means more lumps to take out.
Bugger :(
At 6' 1" my arms are long, but I'm not sure they'll get around this one.
My grandfather was called 'the Ape' because of his huge hands and long arms. At 6'1" he had a hand span of about 7'.
My old man was not much different.
We aren't long descended from the trees, but I'm more petite at 30" or 760mm from armpit to fingertip. :)
Good work! As Lacey said, interesting bottom side!
I'm glad it is 'x25', and not 26! 26 is SUP/666 territory!
As close as it will get to being ready for glassing.
Still a few glitches but the more I try to get them out the more I make.
I'm good like that. :)
I'll paint it, but the last one I done ran slightly when I glassed it.
I used car spray packs, which is enamel I think.
Any suggestions?
Mate I love your work on the bottom .... have you got tint or art idea as yet ???? cool
I agree that bottom is amazing.
My Mrs has an amazing bottom :D
The chines had a dip in them and to get it out I put a slight step in the peak of the chine. Should be interesting to glass. Especially when I haven't used 6 oz for about 30 years.
Oh. And it's now 24 1/2", compliments of working out the glitches.
I'd like to do something like a Mexican blanket, but still not sure exactly how I'll go about it.
I've considered tints, but for my limited skills and resources it may be a good idea to spray it.
I'll ponder it for a couple of days. I usually find a heap of lumps in it that way.

Do it mate just take it slow and plan well in advance and have colours ready to go,keep the deck clear and just do the bottom and rails.
Having said all that I've never had a got.
Beerdead I'm loving the shape of it...well done mate and I'm looking forward to seeing the next bunch of pics....with the bevel? On the nose what are they for? I saw a board Eden from dead kooky was shaping and it looked similar
Edit, Eden has them the opposite way
Supposedly chines help prevent catching the rail, particularly in critical manouvres, such as the take off.
I'm not getting any cleverer, and I need as much assistance as I can get.
I'm hoping that the slight vee running into a dual concave, which is about 1' back, and where the chines start, will help my paddle in. I have always been plagued by the invisible hand on take of, getting hung up in the lip and trying to pop up at the very last moment. I can't do that any more so here's hoping.
Thanks for posting that video Ted.
I've been watching it closely.
I have my bottles and the tints.
Just waiting for the right day, as I'll glass it in the back yard.
This morning would have been perfect, but I wasn't ready.
Working the next 5 mornings so it will have to wait. Bugger :(
Any chance you could;d use your shed? I usually just lay down loads of tarps in the shed and do it in there. You can get them for almost nothing at Bunnings these days. the joy of the garage is that you can shut all the doors and then use the UV mix for the lam which gives you all the time in the world. And time is your friend when glassing
Ted, I can barely walk through the garage at the moment.
I have plenty of builders plastic but my main concern is the fumes.
The garage is under the house and my son gets asthma. I didn't make boards for years to protect him, but he's a big ferk now and he needs to HTFU.
Just joking of course.
