So, I thought I had the set of Munoz longboards (as far as Surftech boards were concerned)... I'd overlooked the 9'3".
I found it online when I wasn't really looking - and while I found it elsewhere, turns out it was advertised on this site too.
No real surprise that it's now in my possession, and I was originally only considering it to 'complete the set'. That said, the seller was advertising it as 93L, which seemed large given the differing volumes of the larger boards between sizes. So I did a dive on the Wayback machine, with screenshots below.
But in terms of 'volume' specs:
9'3" Tuflite (old tech) - 93L
10'6" Tuflite - 105L
11' Tuflite - 120L
12' Tuflite - 135L
10'6" TPLC (current tech) - 101L
11' TPLC - 120.5
12' TPLC - 147L
Dunno if the calculations have changed or the boards, but some vol differences between the constructions - most shockingly 135L for the old school 12' and 147L for the current tech.
Either way, once I confirmed the 9'3" rocked in at 93L, I couldn't see how I could pass it up.
FYI - if the add is still up, it was better in person than the pics.
Who's a happy camper?
Think of how much wax I'll save!
What I find fascinating about the data pulled from the wayback machine/internet archives, is just how different these boards were in their old tuflite construction. Really supports the idea that they're not the same 'model' at different lengths, but essentially different boards.... especially in the 'shorter' lengths.
There's a 15L difference between the 12' and 11' (losing 1.25L/inch).
At the same time, there's a similar 15L difference between the 11' and the 10'6 (losing 2.5L/inch).
And then 'only' a 12L difference between the 10'6" and the 9'3", with the 9'3" having a wider nose, wider tail, and a bit thicker than the 10'6" too (losing 0.8L/inch)
It was my understanding there would be no math.
I love my 12', 11' and 10'6" Munoz boards, with the 10'6" being my go-to board these days, so I'm pretty keen to get the 9'3" waxed up and in the water!
Great set of boards there, Damned. I wonder also how they choose how to graduate the rocker across the various lengths. I suppose the intent is to make the model as similar as possible in its character across the incarnations. Anyway, I'm jealous.
My favourite-ever board was an 8'1 McTavish Carver. I'm convinced it's a shape that would work at almost every length even though I think the actual choice went from 7ft to maybe 8'6. Might ask Bob if he can whip me up custom Carver Glider....
If anyone has a simple way to measure/compare rocker, I'm happy to do so for the four boards.
Otherwise I can just stack them all on top of each other and take a pic, if anyone is interested.
I'm pretty happy with the collection, I've got to say. That said, I wont be entirely happy with it until I have the 11' in the old tuflite construction, as much as I love the 11' in the 'current' construction.
It's kinda odd that I'm loving these surftech 'pop-outs' while my customs gather dust. I need to give them some more love.
And yeah, I'm sure Bob would love to whip something up... just learn from Macaha and put a new leg rope on it.
This one is on FB marketplace and Gumtree... dunno if it's the right Tuflite version?

"Beautiful 11' Mickey Munoz " Glide " Surfboard Surftech Signature Classic. Made with The Original Surftech/Tuflite Technology."
Yes, yes it is.
If I had just bought the 9'3", I'd be seriously looking at that one.
That said, I really want a red one. Long story.
I think that is a board that was for sale for $750 in Manly a year or so ago. Bought by a well known surfer and sold again. That board is like Sydney real estate. Keeps going up. I have a newer Surftech for sale and my mate has an original Surftech for sale. His is grey colour. Sort of like a heavy undercoat colour.
