Maybe the boards are still in space and that is why they are taking so long to arrive

Sorry for the delay guys. For some reason my phone wouldn't let me reply or start a new topic. Had to wait until I had real computer access...

Anyway here it is...

With the last shot... Please don't tell me how bad my grass is... It's still green (sort of) at the end of summer so I'm not doing too bad. And I don't mow it myself because I'm a lazy bastard...

Anyway... For the dirty old men on here...

For the last two years she's been using my (not so) shortboard (7'4") as a longboard. Trouble is the rocker on it really hampered her ability to get onto really fat waves. she needed a much steeper takeoff than she was ready for (still a learner).

This board has a much flatter rocker and the wide tail picks up the waves much earlier meaning she can get her fair share.

We went out on Saturday and again yesterday and she came back with a big smile both times (except for the bastard drop-in who dinged the rail on Saturday... She definitely wasn't happy about that!).

Anyway just because I can here's a photo of my new board too. Blank has been shaped. Glassing starts next week. Hopefully have it in my hot little hands in three weeks. Will post some pics when I get it.

If I get home early enough (and the rain stops...) I'll try and post a quiver shot in the other thread... If I can fit them in the backyard

Hey Chrispy

I think I'll keep my wife's dims to myself at this stage thanks... .

And yeah she got the t-shirt at the show last weekend. First time she's ever bought a band t-shirt.

As for my new stick I may be slightly off but it's something like 9'4" x 23" x 2 7/8". Pretty sure the length and width are close but may be wrong on thickness. It's being made as a nose rider because my current Mal is too narrow in the tail so there's nothing to hold it in the wave. Now I've got no excuse...

It's being glassed by Pete Coffey who was one of the original glassers for Klemm Bell Surfboards back in the day. Legendary glasser who did the great work on my wife's board. She even got him to put his name on it as well just for the record. I'm doing the same...

Its also going to have some pretty impressive art. Not going to say any more... You're going to have to wait to see it.

Mick that's why its so short. Greg Hogan took one look at my shortboard and gave her his own board to try out. We filmed her riding it and he shaped this based on what he saw. Basically took a 9' Mal and cut 2' out of the middle of it.

Come to think of it I might have to steal it off her for a go sometime... It's a real sweet looking ride.

LOL its funny you should say that, I would think the same. But the next door neighbours between me & the friend I jam with every weekend actually sit out on the front lawn to have a better listen to us...although we aspire to sound as awesome, we certainly don't, I think it boils down to having cool neighbours. Oh his brother does seek escape though, my friend hits the drums pretty hard & my amps maxed out

Thats some awesome local shaper service.....& yeah I'd be keen to steal her board for a ride as well haha...I've tryed to get my missus into surfing, but she grew up in the Japanese mountains near Nagano. She can snowboard, but has no wave knowlege. She scares easily & prefers flat water, loves snorkling...Mentioned it to someone last summer & they were like. Yeah if you got the missus into surfing, who's going to film you surfing LOL I gave up, but she comes out on the 666 when its small sometimes

I should point out that the ripple effect in the first photo is actually the reflection of the garage.

As for a good camera... Was just the camera in my Samsung S4 Mini so nothing special. And the photos have been compressed for the web. Didn't want the page loading slowly.

It is an amazing board. As I said before Pete Coffey is an awesome glasser. He's been doing it for a long time. Can't wait to see how my new stick turns out. With any luck it will look even better.

Having said that I could look at my wife's board all day. It really is a work of art... A bit like her too... and yes I be purving on that work of art as often as I can See what I mean...

I really like the effect of the additional glass on the deck, but I'd really really like to know how it was done?

I'll assume it's not Volan so the darker effect would simply come from the fact that additional glass means addition resin with tint.

So I assume that there was a single deck layer of tinted 6oz that you can see from roughly the decal forward

Then the slightly darker shade of tinted 6oz on the triangular sections of the rails, because it's double layered

Then from where the 2 layers crisscross in the centre, all the way to the back of the board, it's much darker because it's 3 layers of tinted 6oz

If the above is reasonably accurate, then that means a lot of the front part of the deck is a single layer of 6oz

Then again, the additional layers could be 4oz over the 6oz deck.

Did the glasser mention what he used?

BTW, " get stuffed, it's a trade secret" is a legitimate answer

OBCT... get stuffed it's a trade secret...

seriously though...

The deck is a 4oz and 6oz glass. To make the different shades is just extra layers of glass. The tint is the same all over.

So the rails have extra layers and so does the back of the deck. It's overlaid in a cross over pattern to get the colours.

No volan was used
