You blokes use boards with wax.
All my boards up until now have deck pads.
No wax.
Wax on boards usually looks disgusting, full of sand and dirt.
But you have these beautiful boards with wonderful colours, then smear wax on them.
I'm getting a board with no deck pad, need to decide on what to do.
How do you clean wax off between surfs if you want to polish or otherwise waste time over the board?
Do you clean wax off between surfs?
Does it matter?
I hate the look of the dirty wax on the shiny board.
Can you keep wax clean?
Anything appreciated.
Absolute beginner as far as this is concerned here.
Wax with dirty bits adds character Nozz - you can always get a wax comb and shave some off if ya get bothered by it , but sounds like you'll deckpadding it soon I'd say
Get a deckpad mate - unless you like the idea of somehow removing a couple of hundred grams of runny wax out from between your toes , that board will be out in the sun it'll melt fast and end up over the footpedals of the Van
Just do what some do and don't surf it. Spend your surfing time watching the gardener cut your grass for board pics which are to be used for gumtree sales... Best way to keep your wax looking smhick
Boat shoes bro....I mean booties, no need for wax. I wax my longboards about every 3 months, mostly on the sides where I grip with my hands...
Do not underestimate the power of the boat shoes...saves $ in wax...best grip ever, just need to learn to adjust pressure. I will never release this secret again ever...& no one will believe me anyway, I love it
PS Mac taught me this...
The power of the boat shoes will be lost with the decline of this thread...however its power will live on, best thing is people think its a joke
Seriously, A Chinese smather of whatever smells nice & boat shoes combo, your covered...
Here we go again......
I actually have huge difficulty finding booties that work.
Can't feel anything, feet go numb, stink out the car.
Feet hurt in them, feel like I'm surfing in gumboots.
Two years ago I bought booty drier things to stick in them in the back of the van.
Last year I went all through winter without booties, think I will go that way in future.
Hexatraction or something too, but hesitant to stick / paint something on the board I will then have to try and get off if it doesn't work.
Okay, I'll try a serious answer, MR and I have a mate called Mick, he recently scored a 10.6 Ian Goodacre Board that's a real honey, but the guy had deck grip all over it from nose to tail. Apart the the extra weight, Mick found that he was getting blisters on his knees from the foam deck grip, I figure any other deck treatment will
likly do the same
but wait, there's more, I also figure that if Mick was wearing a steamer, it probably would not matter. So my serious answer is, if you use an abrasive deck treatment to keep your board pretty, then always wear a steamer
Not being a smart arse here Nozza, but I would be asking the 666 room.
most blokes here have entered the dark side and know
but I would think if you are spending anytime on the knees your would
have to go deck grip,my 2c.
666 room useless for most things, anything that is not stock standard was going to type brands here but too many of them, out of their league.
I know more than most in there now.
Hope no one from there is reading now.....
Wax I reckon will work, apart from standing on it a long time, no padding, feet will hurt.
HTFU Nozza probably the answer there.
I just hate the dirt in the wax look I see a lot.
No knee time for this little Noz.
And does anyone unwax / rewax?
