haha master BS'ter maybe, but dunno that much about hats. Just have a preference for all round brim hats. West suits had a good one, but they went bust after getting ripped off. A lot have that thin wettie type neophane thats not very strong...had one after that which was stolen by the ocean pretty quick & now have an FCS one I like coz the brim is not so wide making it easier to duckdive. No brand preference they're all much of a muchness.

Main thing about hats is learning to grab hold of them when you bail so you don't have to go chasing after your $50 hat with a set rolling through onto a reef.

Hi guys thanks for the replies ,yep that's me little mate alfy got him from the pound hes a winner funny as sometimes .I am 57 so the old scone is getting a bit thin with some patches worn right through so rather than a burnt scone i decided to buy a hat then remembered those gath helmets but they wanted near on 200 for a new one ,the one i got was pretty good condition and cost me 40 so i was happy as ill try both and make a decision .
As for measuringi think they tell you how to but i havent got to much hair but i think if you followed there instructions you will be right and even if not you can always sell it and get another .

The Gaths are easily resized by changing the inner liner - taht takes five minutes because I had to do it. It was free too, but I went to the factory in Margies.I wear my gath when it's big or crowded. I use an O&E broad brim one otherwise. I flip the hard peak up when paddling out so I can see better.

I have lots of hair, Chrispy. Wear a pigtail with the suit to work.

Like the Drip - I used to wear a gath when it was big or crowded or shallow. These days I pretty much wear it 99% of the time. Like a motorbike and bike helmet the Gath will wear down a bit over time. I went a size too big on my one I reckon. I used to have a few diff types of sun protecting hats as well - recently I have got myself one of the new style O'Neil ones - it has a pretty strong brim and some big holes to let water out. Its like this one. Works a treat.

been wearing a gath for almost forever now......sensible attire when boards go up in the air and come down willy nilly.
If surf is tiny sometimes don't wear it.....but feel a bit naked without it
am old too of course.....so don't feel young and bullet proof and 10 foot tall lol

Hi guys it is good to hear that i wont be such a strange boird out in the water ,i know gath have been around for years but it has come as abit of a shock that now i have to wear head gear in the water as i have never done before .i am considering buying a large helmet to see if it will fit a little bit more comfy.than the medium .the o and e soft hat is really soft but has the stiff brim.
