First Barnet wants to build off Cottesloe now he has his eye on building a road through the Scarborough Sand dunes.. 
Also losing 240 car bays from the current car park.. 
Sounds like there building a couple of small roads through crappy scrub. I heard an old tree hugger winging about an endangered lizard then they showed a picture of a bob tail goanna. WTF

The primary sand dunes are critical habitat for a number of species even in that clapped out scrub, but those that don't undrestand that won't want to, so won't bore you with what a stupid idea is from that perspective, however a coastal disruption of primary dune sand movement, there's a real potential to stuff up any potential for decent banks forming, which doesn't really matter as it's always crap there anyway.
On on the plus side if they were clever about it they could push the sands from the dunes put onto the beach and over the high tide mark into the water a bit and potentially create a bank for a bit, mix it with road base and some limestone Whalla !! artificial reef maybe?

Not to mention 240 less car bays at Scarb and south Trigg car park, so that could also be a positive Its not like parking is an issue, hopefully whilst their at it, they won't introduce paid parking as demand will be higher than ever before

Im not aware of any lizard issues, but i have seen the destruction removing sand dunes from beaches before and for that reason alone i think it a bad idea.. 
In NSW the only thing that is allowed on the foredunes area is a surf club these days
Building over sand dunes doesn't sound like a good idea but in this case it seems it's a small area and more of an extension of what is already there. The artificial reef sounds like the best idea. Give the Sharks somewhere to sleep.
Paid parking is scary, I fear it's on the cards in the not too distant, I remember they were looking at it in Cott a few years ago. Hope that never happens.

Having seen how bad the paid parking was in Byron Bay, OMG i suggest we fight that as hard as possible.

To be honest I think the majority of the negative effects along the metro coastline is from Hillary's being built and the rock groynes messing up the natural current flow and sand movement up and down the coast.
Perhaps the winters too are on average a bit less intense than what they were a few decades ago, not digging the beach out so much.

Just wanted to add that Triggs & Scarborough also had rainwater drains running out on the beach. Dunno how much impact they had on banks, but I remember playing in them after a big rain & they cut big gouges in the beach sometimes. Agree all the groynes & sh1t would have had more of an impact. But the odd big downpour might have helped occasionally. Even if it wasn't enough to wash sand out & effect the shape of a bank. The water running up & back down something other than a straight edged beach could have done something too...maybe.

I didn't know about them, but absolutely. Stormwater drain in Gero provides banks for South Pipe.
Perhaps not all, but some of those drains are still there. Just need some precipitation.

I remember a big one at Brighton Beach.. I haven't surfed their in decades so i have no idea its still there though
