This morning I copped a fin to the head.
A long paddle to the beach, leaving a trail of blood in the water, no phone reception and a drive to Margs hospital.
Thanks to Dave for driving me and thanks to my good nurse friends John and Sandy for looking after me.

It was my board that hit me while getting turned inside out on the inside after catching a wave.

that's pretty gnarly... but at least you look like your good head of hair will eventually cover it!
i'll bet its not tickling today! hope it heals up ok!

it also raises that question of whether surfers should wear helmets?
i know camel (when he was the surf guide) and andy? from WA used to wear/and custom make their own at G Land in the 90's
and i couldn't help thinking while watching the last teahupoo contest that they should be wearing helmets
moot point as i don't use one myself although as i slow up a bit and the hair thins and my noggin gets burnt it might be something to think about!
that photo is one for the pool room!

Thanks for the support.
Yep a thumping headache this morning. Straight for the forte and back to bed.
Have a Gath and wear it windsurfing when it's big. Sometimes when I surf. But this time I didnt. Always the way though hey.

You poor fella. Hope it heals fast with no long term damage. Chrispy got a pretty decent fin chop a few years back as well. Not good.

Prawnhead - been thinking the same thing for a while now - went and tried a few on a few months back - the XL was too big the L felt too tight. This is a good reminder of why I was looking at them in the first place.

They are great photos. Get well soon.

As for helmets I suppose the real risk is being KO'd out in the water.

Greenroom was it a hard knock, or just the right angle? Or both maybe.

second pic is even more evil

such a reminder that it can happen to anyone too regardless of experience...

i worked with an older guy that tried to take up surfing - second paddle at trigg on a small summer day, fin chop to groyne, didn't lose his manhood but the 6 inch gash hit some major vein/arteries and he was straight to hospital emergency - never surfed again.
always remember seeing pottz on the news after his board hit his midriff/abdomenal area after an innocuous close out barrel on the east coast somewhere at least a decade ago. can happen to anyone.

get well soon.

Not wishing to state the bleeding obvious ...

but there's way too much over-sharing now on Seabreeze.

What next, a close-up gore pic of an eyesocket impaled by a pointy-nosed surfboard perhaps ?

Ban fins and other nasty stuff.
