Let me rephrase... who is surf foiling on a prone board here?
What board and what foil are you using?
Where are you surfing?
OK, serious response then.
I've thought about foiling in the river on boat wakes. Coming back from Rotto I often have a couple of canoes cruising along on my stern wake. I've thought that the wake would be ideal to foil. My two reasons for holding back are:
1. I've got too many toys and not enough room.
2. I'm not sure that it would be a good fit for my surfing. Many years ago I got a minimal as work/kids/life meant that I could only get out irregularly, and so I needed something to increase my wave count. Unfortunately riding the minimal for a few years caused me to develop some really poor wave habits, such as being too back foot heavy on take off, and loss of self generated speed after an off the top turn. I wonder if using a foil would have the some unintended consequences for surfing if I'm only spending 5 or 6 hours a week in the water. Maybe if I was able to get out for a few hours a day, then any changes in turn memory/ board handling would be easier to negate?
Just my thinking.
A number of guys local are haven't manged to catch up but talk to a standup who foils quite a bit, really interesting all the issues one thing I hadn't thought of when taking off in size the height of the foil makes the wave feel even bigger.
he raves about the speed
yes, been prone foiling about 8 times, and its a learning curve, that I'm still trying to master.
there are a few hard core local crew into it that have been going over 12 months now and they rip
great for the less than average surf spots
the shoulder of that right in the pic above would be awesome to get you going then maybe pump it across the bay.
Once the seabreezes start there will be more people into the downwinders. Get onto the ocean swells what ever way you can. - paddle, wing, kite or prone on a wave then pump
Been sup and windfoiling for 6months now
Its bulk fun but the learning curve is savage when you start cathing waves. The stacks are brutal. Im glad im passed that stage now
So addictive, 1-2 ft slop is now my ideal surf conditions.
Been foiling about 12 months.

Yeah I saw your board on Amos's Instagram. How are you finding the board? I'm getting an Amos but just haven't decided on the specs just yet.

Really stoked on this board (just feels right), on my next one I might drop down a little on volume & get the carbon wrap. (Allready on my second board Lol)
I'm 72kg & this board is 37L, with an alloy foil (in my case Axis with 75cm mast) the volume is about right but if I was on a full carbon foil (Armstrong/MFC etc) I think I would need a bit less volume (maybe 5L) in the board.
